Why is everyone so giddy about the flooding thay happened at burning man?

People are children and repeat what they hear. 15 years ago, I would spout the same nonsense about burning man because of what I read on digg/Reddit from the same voices you hear now. I then met a friend who convinced me to go and I had an absolute blast.

For the vast majority of people in the US, let alone the world, attending the event is almost impossible due to cost, time, materials, etc. - it’s much easier for people that live nearby and most people within driving distance, the views of burning man will be more in line with your views - nuanced and reasonable. If you have no experience and no contact with the regular folks who attend, it’s super easy to bucket people into all these groups.

The reasoning about waste and frivolity is total bullshit — don’t tel me your bullshit vacation to Murtle Beach is anymore eco friendly. Or your plane ride to Bangkok to become more worldly is “green”. Burning man is an event, a vacation. I went many times as a student, spending only about $2000 all in. It’s a relatively economical way to have a blast for a week.

What are politically progressive Tesla owners doing with their vehicles now that Musk is transparently in bed with the opposite end of the political spectrum?

I just don’t really give a shit. I like the car and it works well for me and provides a lot of comfort. I’m sure the ceos of all the other car companies are equally as shitty as Elon but quiet so does it really even matter? Don’t kid yourself that you’re saving the world for buying a Volvo or Toyota instead of a Tesla.

Leaky bags

Paper lets the flour breathe, releasing moisture. The grain isn’t 100% when milled and the milling process generates significant heat (mill some grain at home with a motorized mill and see). Warmth + moisture + hermetically sealed plastic smells like a nice way to grow some fungus.

Edit: isn’t 100% dry when milled.

Almost half of US states haven't done the bare minimum to cut utility bills.

Reply in thread

All the PGE customers are forced to bear the costs associated with losses from fires caused by PGE in rural areas. If each city formed a municipal utility company, our prices would all be in line with SMUD since we’d only pay for the risks associated with ourselves. I’m guessing energy prices in the foothills would absolutely skyrocket. But I’d rather have cheaper power for myself.

Is there an easy way to generate a list of CMYK color values that will appear identical to the human eye under 589nm light?

Low pressure sodium lamps have a pretty sharp spectrum: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sodium-vapor_lamp

Looking at the color spectrum, have you just tried and colors in the green to blue to purple range? I don’t think you need a Python library for this, I think you need to experiment. There’s a lot of dependence on the reflectivity of the material you’re looking at in addition to the color you see under sunlight or even indoor light with broad spectrum.

Try blue and green and see if both look the same under the lamp.

people woho regularly go to fast food chains like Burger king - why?

I think most people only have shit fast food near them as a convenience food. I traveled through the south a lot last year and realized that most of the country must just be massive suburbs separated by strip malls and fast food buildings. Even brand new developments are all banks and Culver’s or some crap.

It’s a stark contrast to urbanized areas. We get so much more in options for convenience food that I don’t even consider fast food as existing.

A Soviet poster from 1953 about the perception of the United States. Nothing has changed.

Look, I’m just showing you raw data for how the money is spent. Argue what you want about the utility of that spent money but you can’t argue we spend more of defense than on our own people. 49% of our budget goes toward entitlement programs. I’d like to see what other highly regarded countries are spending as a percentage of yearly expenses - I doubt they extend much beyond 25-30%.
