Hey could we defederate with exploding-heads.com/
Not the prettiest instance, but have they caused any real trouble outside of their own instance? Not much of a fediverse if we just defederate from instances that lean different politically. Especially seems like a weird move to go defederating on other instances this early given y'know, that we just got defederated from beehaw because of one misbehaved asshole.

I honestly thought libertarian was the more flattering descriptor
Yeah, so do they - that's why they try to co-opt the term lol

Took a peek on Reddit, it really boggles my mind how oblivious and obedient people are.
Can't expect the millions of people who don't even understand what an API is to care about the API changes. Hell, I didn't use a 3rd party app or really care about the API changes but I've wanted to get into the fediverse and disliked reddit for a long time, so it's as good an excuse as anything.

Beehaw defederating update - sh.itjust.works

Honestly, I'll take a risk of trolls over losing the atmosphere here any day. Don't really need to see content from instances that are bothered enough to defederate anyways, there's plenty of stuff here and on lemmy.world and other communities we're federated to.

Is lemmy.ml just a tankie recruitment zone?

Unhappy with Lemmy
I was using the official reddit app (gasp) before this, using Jerboa now and it feels just as smooth if not smoother?

rather than leaving the platform, find or host yourself an instance that blocks the tankie instances... I'm loving sh.itjust.works so far, which blocks lemmygrad.ml - that's the beauty of federation

At that point though again, why don't you just go to a more heavily moderated instance (which there are plenty of) rather than demand heavier moderation on this instance? Also, wanting a more relaxed standpoint on defederation, I can't see him wanting to move to a server that's likely to be heavily defederated by other instances itself.

I never said they were equivalent.
Comma separation implies a list of traits (users are both r/thedonald users and libertarian) whereas or/and would imply that libertarians and r/thedonald users both exist in the instance
What term would you use to describe their users?
Conservative/MAGA fits the majority of the content a lot better

Am I the only one that feels lemmy is boring?
I mean, it's kinda in it's first week of real content output so there's obviously not gonna be a lot here yet

Good servers for self-hosting

^ Lenovo tiny thinkcenters are the best thing ever. Heck, I use the older haswell-era M73s that you can get for $30-40 on ebay and they're amazing. Only drawback is no m.2 and no PCIe expandability but if you're on a budget and want a starter homelab you can literally cluster 3 of these things for ~$100

The feeling of ownership, of oh I can go host an instance at home and knowing that you aren't at the whim of corporate admins or a company's poor fortune, is so incredibly cool. I really hope more decentralized/selfhostable alternatives to major services start to take off.

Come July 1, how ready is Lemmy to handle a significant influx of users?

On the other hand sending people to a list of servers that includes stuff like lemmygrad and yiffit pretty high on the list is... a potential turnoff

The high number of users on .world is because it still has open registration
I wonder if accounts on certain servers will be "prestigious" one day lol

Reddit’s popularity will slowly fade
Reddit definitely screws things up often enough for regular waves of recruitment lol
