I don't think it's great writing. To me, regardless of AI involvement, it sounds like it's trying hard to be punchy. Big ideas, big impact! But the lack of structural variation and generic vocabulary make it bland, and bland writing doesn't tickle one's imagination or stick in one's memory.

Texas anti-ICE protesters convicted of terrorism charges sentenced to at least 50 years in prison
A few of the protesters spontaneously broke off from the main group and vandalized cars in the parking lot, a guard shack, slashed the tires on a government van and broke a security camera. When a police officer arrived on the scene and drew his weapon, one of the activists fired an AR-15 from the woods, hitting the officer in the shoulder. The officer survived.
So, more than signs & chants, and way less than ICE agents murdering and breaking into homes without warrants. On the whole, the protesters sound like they were on the side of justice combatting government that's operating outside the law.

I was with you until "until." Abolish ICE.
Though that may be the most incremental progress Bernie expects to be possible.

House Democrats ensure funding of Trump’s global military rampage and domestic dictatorship
Twenty-one Republicans—primarily from the fascistic House Freedom Caucus—voted against the bill. The Democrats responded by supplying the exact number of votes needed to offset Republican defections.
Were the Republicans just unwilling to accept the reduced ICE budget, or actually against it?

Tesla kills Autopilot, locks lane-keeping behind $99/month fee
I'm horrified by subscription features on hardware, but if Tesla wants to pour gasoline on its dumpster fire, great.
Out of curiosity, $8,000/$99 = 6yr 9mo.
As commenters on Ars have pointed out, lane keeping is a pretty standard feature at this point.

Engineer builds AI laser defense system that wiped out every mosquito in his home
Reply in thread
The foundation of the system is its visual model, which Cheng trained on a custom mosquito dataset. To do that, he relied on a DSLR camera with a high-magnification zoom lens, capturing detailed images of mosquitoes for training data.
So, machine vision model. Cooler project, less clicky title.

Scientists Finally Reveal Biological Basis of Long COVID Brain Fog
Taken together, the study’s findings represent a crucial step forward in addressing many unresolved issues regarding Long COVID. The systemic increase in AMPARs provides a direct biological explanation for the cognitive symptoms, highlighting a target for potential treatments. For example, drugs that suppress AMPAR activity could be a viable approach to mitigate brain fog. Interestingly, the team’s analysis also demonstrated that imaging data can be used to distinguish patients from healthy controls with 100% sensitivity and 91% specificity.
