Your claim that 60% of these bottles will be burned is false. The recycling quota for single-use plastic bottles in Germany is 97.6% (2023; source).

60% was the quota of all non-recycled plastic packaging material combined, back in 2018. This quota has further decreased since, and is now at about 30% (2023, source), so almost 70% of all plastic packaging in Germany is recycled. It's still not perfect, but far, far better than just burning everything.

Recycling isn't an easy and cheap process, but it can definitely work and be steadily improved, if it's properly implemented. I'm so tired of this dumb suggestion, that recycling is bad because it's not perfect (or, in the case of the US, full of corruption). Every bit of plastic that isn't polluting the environment is a win. And recycling is definitely helping with that. As opposed to propagating false information on the internet.

It probably differs from country to country, but in Germany, for example, between 38-48% of plastic is recycled (source). Sure, that‘s far from all of it, but still far, far better than nothing. Falsely claiming that recycling is mostly a scam and, by that, implying that it doesn‘t make sense to try to recycle you trash, is a horrible idea and only makes the situation worse.

Almost all of them use licensed third-party libraries which are integrated deeply into the game's code base, but which can't legally be distributed as part of an open source project. So in order to be able to open source a modern commercial game, you'd have to put in quite a lot of work finding all of your code integrating with commercial libraries and either replacing or removing it. And if that's not enough, you'd probably have to have your (expensive) legal team check the entire code base for any infringements just to be on the safe side.

All that work for no monetary gain just isn't a very good business case. So, unfortunately, I wouldn't expect a lot of modern games to be open sourced any time soon.

Naja, rechtlich betrachtet besteht da tatsächlich wenig Spielraum. In U-Haft dürfte der Mann nur genommen werden, wenn Flucht-, Verdunkelungs- oder Wiederholungsgefahr bestünde. Ich war natürlich nicht dabei, aber nach der Schilderung im Artikel halte ich es zumindest für plausibel, dass die Polizisten diese Gefahren ausschließen konnten. Vereinfacht ausgedrückt: 71 Jährige rennen selten weg, Personalien sind aufgenommen, zu verdunkeln gibt es nichts und das Ganze wirkte ja eher wie eine Affekthandlung, also ist eine Wiederholung zumindest nicht wahrscheinlich.

Es fühlt sich nach dem eigenen Gerechtigkeitsgefühl sicherlich erstmal falsch an, wenn jemand eindeutig etwas verbrochen hat und dann „freigelassen“ wird. Aber ich halte das für einen notwendigen Kompromiss, um sicherzustellen, dass Freiheitsrechte auch tatsächlich das hohe Gut sind, das sie sein sollen.

Am Ende muss man hier einfach abwarten, was beim Prozess herauskommt. Erst wenn der Mann dort freigesprochen wird, würde ich mir ernsthaft Sorgen machen.

Not a map, but at least some more data from some other countries. The own car is unfortunately the most used mode of transport for commuting in every surveyed country, but the US seem to be especially far behind when it comes to alternatives.

Laut netzpolitik.org wurde die Polizei von der Staatsanwaltschaft zurückgepfiffen, nachdem sie das Plakat abgenommen und dann vergeblich versucht hatte, Weidel und Merz zu erreichen, um nachzufragen, ob sich einer von beiden beleidigt fühlt. Kannste dir nicht ausdenken.

And as much as I want to like Krita, GIMP and such, their workflows just can’t compare with proprietary software in many cases. Also, especially for photo editing, their feature sets can’t compare with Adobe’s or Affinity’s either.

I use Krita, GIMP and Affinity Photo pretty regularly, and while there have been great improvements to the open source alternatives recently, I just get stuff done with Affinity, while still having to constantly search the web for things Krita and GIMP hide somewhere deep within their menus.

All open source image editors I’ve used are in dire need of a complete UX rework (like Blender and Musescore successfully did) before being more than niche alternatives to proprietary software.

So, as of yet, I can definitely understand the wish for a feature-rich and easily usable image editing suite on Linux.

It's nice that they fear it, but it would be better if they learned to recognize it and act accordingly.

Musk was given his own opinion piece in a big Sunday newspaper recently (Welt am Sonntag, published by Axel Springer), praising the right-wing extremist party AfD and telling people to vote for them. Then, he was part of a (hilariously bad) live stream with AfD's leader Alice Weidel. And then he appeared on their party congress. And just today, Bild, which is Germany's most popular trash-newspaper and made by, drum-roll please, Axel Springer, published an article (archive link, German), implying that the current wave of protests against fascism and right-wing-extremists is just state-controlled propaganda. And this covered only [the most obvious part of] the US-side of things.

But don't worry, Russia has been caught recently as well: It came to light, that a series of vandalized cars, where the exhausts were stuffed with building foam and stickers of the Green's leader were put on the cars, were most likely ordered by Russia and not done by some green extremists.

And how is that knowledge reflected in the polls? Right-wing-extremists up, Greens and moderate parties down. Greeeeeat!

I'm so sick of reading stuff about people being afraid of being manipulated by someone. Yes! People are trying to manipulate you, you blithering dingus, maybe you should try not being so easily manipulable instead of sitting there acting like you can't do anything about it! Stop getting your news exclusively from social media and other sources which have been manipulative in the past. And use a bit of common sense when you're being told that the evil Greens want to take away your pet, turn off your heating and ruin each and every farmer in Germany. Sure, there might be more subtle manipulation going on, but not falling for the really obvious stuff would at least be a great start.

Ich wünschte wirklich, solche eindeutigen Rechtsbrüche durch die Polizei hätten mal Konsequenzen.

Update 13.02.: Es gibt inzwischen weitere Neuigkeiten. So hat die Polizei wohl nicht einmal versucht, eine, für eine Beschlagnahme erforderliche, richterliche Genehmigung zu bekommen. Sie haben einfach wild drauflos beschlagnahmt. Außerdem rücken sie weiterhin keinerlei Akten an Richter und Anwälte raus. Dafür bietet die Polizei jetzt an, den Adenauer zurückzugeben, wenn das ZPS ihn zum drölfzigsten Mal beim TÜV untersuchen und die Klage gegen die Polizei fallen lässt. Was das ZPS selbstverständlich nicht akzeptiert.

So langsam beschleicht mich das Gefühl, dass die Berliner Polizei 1 Pimmelbande sondergleichen ist.

Update 13.02. (2): Inzwischen hat sich die Berliner Innensenatorin Iris Spranger im Abgeordnetenhaus zu dem Vorgang geäußert. Die Ausschnitte des ZPS enthalten viele Schnitte, die komplette Sitzung gibt es hier (ist momentan noch live, deshalb leider ohne Zeitmarke. Das Thema beginnt etwa 2 Stunden nach Start der Aufzeichnung).

Sinnvoller erscheint mir die Maßnahme nach Fr. Sprangers Ausführungen jedenfalls immer noch nicht:

Als Begründung für die Beschlagnahme führt Fr. Spranger an, dass ein Polizist Mängel festgestellt haben will (zur Erinnerung: Der Bus war zuvor drei Mal bei einer HU und zusätzlich bei weiteren Sachverständigen, die keine Mängel feststellen konnten). Auf Nachfrage führt Fr. Spranger aus, dass da beispielsweise die Dachaufbauten, wie Sirenen mit gefährlich hoher Lautstärke, Fahrtenschreiber (?), Drucker (??), Beleuchtungseinrichtungen und ein Absenken des Fahrwerks (???) zu überprüfen wären.

Fr. Spranger hat des Weiteren korrekt wiedergegeben, dass innerhalb von drei Tagen ein richterlicher Beschluss vorliegen muss. Auf Nachfrage, warum heute, am vierten Tag nach der Beschlagnahme, noch keiner vorliegt, weicht sie aus und faselt von Lösungen, die gemeinsam mit dem ZPS, der Polizei und dem TÜV gesucht werden. Das ZPS weiß von diesen gemeinsamen Lösungen offenbar nichts (wenn nicht der oben erwähnte Erpressungsversuch der Polizei gemeint ist...).

I unfortunately can't really see how a browser could still be nice to use and properly resist fingerprinting.

The site https://amiunique.org/fingerprint tries to fingerprint your browser and lists the used attributes along with their uniqueness within their dataset. And while a browser could pretty reliably lie about its User Agent or Platform, it's often just necessary for a modern website to know, for example, what your view-port's resolution is or what kind of audio/video codecs your device supports. Going through my own results, I'd say combining these necessary data points is probably enough to identify me, even though I'm pretty privacy-conscious.

Maybe I'm overly pessimistic, but I think preventing fingerprinting would need a regulatory instead of a technical solution. Unfortunately that doesn't seem very likely anytime soon.

Ich finde diese Gleichsetzung von Sex und männlicher Gewalt an Frauen sehr befremdlich. Haben wir nicht spätestens in den 60ern gelernt, dass Frauen genauso Spaß an Sex haben können wie Männer? Kann es nicht vielleicht eher an der extremen Stigmatisierung von Sexarbeit liegen, dass so wenige Menschen so einen Beruf ergreifen wollen?

Vielleicht ist meine Einschätzung sehr naiv, aber ich finde, ein Verbot sollte immer die Ultima Ratio in der Gesetzgebung sein. Und gerade in einer Gesellschaft, in der immer mehr junge Männer unfreiwillig gar keinen Sex haben, sollte man meiner Meinung nach umso dankbarer dafür sein, dass es Frauen gibt, bei denen jene ihre Triebe abkanalisieren können, sodass vielleicht die ein oder andere Entwicklung zum Incel vermieden werden kann.

Ich finde auch die vermeintlichen Erfolgsstatistiken des nordischen Modells immer etwas fragwürdig. Da Schweden Teil des Schengen-Raums ist, ist beispielsweise nie wirklich klar, ob sich der Menschenhandel tatsächlich reduziert hat oder ob er jetzt nur verstärkt in anderen EU-Ländern stattfindet. Das wäre dann also nur eine positive Auswirkung, wenn man Aus den Augen, aus dem Sinn für ein gutes Motto hält.

Am Ende würde ich einfach viel lieber in einer Gesellschaft leben, in der die Inanspruchnahme von Sexarbeit genauso normal ist wie der Besuch beim Friseur, als in einer, in der sexuell frustrierte junge Männer einen signifikanten Anteil der Wählerschaft stellen und in der Sexarbeit noch extremer stigmatisiert wird, als es eh schon der Fall ist.
