CT & MA become the first states in the US to ban use of PFAS in firefighters’ protective gear

Massachusetts and Connecticut are the first two states in the US to ban the use of toxic PFAS “forever chemicals” in protective gear worn by firefighters.

Turnout gear, including jackets, pants, boots, gloves and other protective equipment that firefighters wear is treated heavily with PFAS that makes it resistant to water and heat, and helps the textiles breathe.

But the protection comes at a steep cost: the International Association of Firefighters (IAFF) estimates cancer from turnout gear accounted for 66% of firefighter deaths from 2002 to 2019.

U.S. Department of Education Announces Withholding of Payment to Student Loan Servicer as Part of Accountability Measures for Harmed Borrowers

Recently, the Department found that MOHELA failed to meet its basic obligation by failing to send billing statements on time to 2.5 million borrowers – some within only seven days of their payment date - and over 800,000 borrowers being delinquent on their loans as a result. In response to identifying this error, the Department is withholding $7.2 million in payment to MOHELA for October, and has directed MOHELA to place all affected borrowers in forbearance until the issue is resolved. Any months these borrowers are in forbearance will count as credit towards loan forgiveness through Public Service Loan Forgiveness and Income Driven Repayment plans.

Announcing the July Version Update

Announcing the July Version Update

Good day, adventurers! Fujito here.

I know this is a recurring theme lately, but just as we were experiencing heavy rains here in Japan, the weather recently did a complete 180 and switched over to scorching hot sunshine, like we were already in the height of summer. In fact, summer this year is sending temperatures soaring from the very start, but at least there's no denying that summer is upon us!

An elementary school near my house has already started up swimming classes, and I can hear the joyful cries of the students whenever I walk by. There's nothing like hearing people enjoying themselves this time of year, wherever they happen to be. I hope everyone creates many lasting memories that stay with them for a lifetime.

Let’s dive right in with a brief rundown of the July version update.

First, we have the usual Ambuscade additions. This time, the Yagudo and funguar will be returning to the battle.

Next, we are also adding an epilogue for The Voracious Resurgence. This follow-up to the story tells what happened to the Destiny Destroyers after the epic battle that served as the tale’s grand finale. This update will conclude the story of The Voracious Resurgence, but be sure to make some extra space in your inventory before you speak with each of the NPCs!

On the technical side, we are making an adjustment to the game so that you can decide when to start some missions that triggered automatically when traveling between areas in the game. For example, you can now choose to have the opening scene and other moments from "A Crystalline Prophecy"—which started playing the moment you entered Lower Jeuno—now play at a later point in time instead.

Now that the game's entire story has been made available, we wanted to take the time to address this topic so that everyone can properly enjoy it.

Going forward, we plan to continue making various changes and adjustments like this to the game, so we hope they make your life in Vana'diel even more enjoyable and relaxing.

Safe journeys!

Immunocompromised? Call your dental insurance and tell them you need additional cleanings. They may adjust the plan without changing the premium.

Since this community needs some content to get going I'm going to share tips and experiences of my own kidney transplant journey. This is one I recently encountered:

Typically US dental insurance only covers two cleanings a year. Once you receive a transplant and become immunocompromised your doctor may instruct you to get additional cleanings to prevent infections. Dental insurance wont be aware unless you tell them.

It was as simple as calling the number on the back of my insurance card and saying I received a transplant and need more frequent cleanings. They activated something on the backend and now I'm good for four cleanings a year with no change to my premium.

Related tip: Ask your doctor if you are supposed to take a single dose of antibiotics before your cleaning. I was not aware of this, but it is recommended during the first year of transplant.

Welcome to /c/dialysis

Hello fellow dialysis users. Considering recent Reddit events, I’ve decided to explore some Reddit alternatives. When I looked there didn’t appear to be a dialysis specific community so I figured I would help by setting one up. I’ve created this same community “magazine” on https://kbin.social/m/dialysis as I’m unsure of the stability of these sites as their user counts start to ramp up.

As this is a community run by users and not a for-profit corporation, we welcome your feedback to make this a better community.

Please read the rules on the side bar and abide by them. Please reach out to the moderating team if there are any issues and we will do our best to address them in a timely manner.
