Enshittification: An explanation for why Reddit (and basically all corporate social media) is getting worse

Tldr: money

Reddit's draw was content. Could have been from users or aggregated from different sources. Content was provided for free by users. Content was moderated for free by mods.

Now reddit is complaining that users consuming content via means bypassing monetisation are entitled while reddit has been freeloading for years. They're basically infrastructure. Important but not the lifeblood.

I hope they wither and perish.

Just replaced the spot where Apollo was on my phone homescreen with a shortcut to Lemmy

Swapped Infinity for Jerboa. I applaud the Infinity devs, and the devs of every reddit client that actually put some effort in to a good user experience rather than what reddit want users to trawl through and generate profits. Unfortunately the latter want to corkscrew more control and profits so now users and devs alike are getting screwed.

Maybe for the best. Explore the Fediverse.

What's the Bitwarden of 2 Factor authentication?

Bitwarden provides a facility for MFA. Though there's an argument to be made against eggs + baskets. It might defeat threw purpose a bit.

I use Aegis which is opensource and easily encrypted and backed up locally. Saved my ass where I accidentally deleted my 2FA for Bitwarden, thus locking me out in circle of shite. Aegis allowed me to roll back and pull in that one missing key without having to redo a load i'd made since the last backup and all was good.

Laptop probably has some downsides but on the upside, it's low power and you have a built in UPS.

If the OS begins to crash, that will need diagnosis, but other than that, no more than any other linux maintenance...

....hmm.

how do I unblock an instance?

I'd like to hitchhike onto this because I don't know if I have an instance blocked or not. Is like to join the Ireland community which is on lemmygrad.ml but it's not showing in the search. I can't seem to centre on an answer to whether that's expected behaviour or not.

I won't create a bug as it's likely a me problem, but if anyone has ideas on what i'm doing wrong, i'd appreciate a hint.

Thanks. It was the ports that were more of an issue. It's one server with several containers and id like a local "url" for all of them, but looks like reverse proxies aster my only out, which is a shame because i'm dumb.
