What helps you sleep better?

Reply in thread

I appreciate your situation. Been there. The weed seems to help sleep. But not dreaming is really bad for emotional processing and your cognitive health.

Weed for sleep is like deciding to walk in a marathon from the start hoping you can pick up the pace later in the race.

The point of not even being able to finish the race at all in time comes and goes without you even noticing.

If you can, try cutting back and finding additional support somewhere else. It sounds like your dad really cares about you. Maybe he will pay for a therapist if you don't want to talk to him? :)

Take care!

What helps you sleep better?

I've had waking up at three or for am for am hour at least every night for the last two years. Tried all the chemical help, nothing that worked worked longer than a few nights.

I live in a complicated situation with an emotionally unavailable woman that I have three small children with and that situation won't resolve itself for a long long time.

Due to the nature of avoidant bonding, this situation and the emotional toll it takes waxes and wanes. During the better hopeful phases my sleep improves, during the bad phases I can't fucking sleep.

So I guess being hopeful helps?

No German, no swim: Language entry rule sparks debate in Germany

German here. On first glance this reads like no xenophobia is involved. However, that rationale is ridiculous, they claim that not understanding basic bathing safety is a problem with German language comprehension. The case about the toddler is about a case of negligent parents, I doubt there are parents that don't understand that you can drown in water no matter how far you are from.

They mention that they took several measures to reduce overcrowding. This is just cleverly disguised xenophobia dressed up as safety concerns to prefer locals over immigrants at the local bath.

🤔 Interesting

The library is still freely available. Its just grown beyond belief and having an efficient way to look up information has been monetized and enshittified by google and friends for decades. AI is just the newest iteration. (And I'm largely pro ai as the tool to find information).

Command line tip of the day

Debian admin here. Even Debian gets regular kernel upgrades that like a reboot afterwards. Security updates are more important than uptime. Also regular testing for clean recovery after a reboot is a must so a power outrage doesn't bring any new surprises with it. Also test your backup restores regularly.

Golden rule for children near adult age: advise and inform not more. Her body her choice and all that, but especially her right to choose. So if you overstep she will just keep doing what she wants, but stop taking to you about it. Keep an eye open if she is happy and healthy and offer her advice whenever you can.

It's probably just experimenting at that age so chill and show her she can trust you.
