From what I understand, the project was started by delivery workers from one of the companies that went out of business, and it grew from there. I think they'd be open to mirroring the code or moving it to another platform if someone was willing to help out with that.

I was going to connect it to a YouTube account and that be the source of truth. I'm not as familiar with invidious/piped, but it should be possible to add all of those links based off of the YouTube playlist? This community doesn't have any rules about what site the videos come from, but the vast majority seem to be from YouTube.

Re-uploading on PeerTube would be a lot more complicated, and the legal side gets more complicated

It would be a playlist of the videos that people post in this community, I'm not making any videos. Right now I manually open videos from this community and save it to YouTube to watch later, and each one takes a while to load.

As for AI use in the setup, I asked LLMs some questions to figure out how to configure the Google account / YouTube permissions, because the official guides seemed out of date and the third party guides contradicted each other. It feels like they don't maintain proper guides anymore

The actual code is fairly minimal, and easy to look over. Right now the setup is:

• Use the Lemmy API to check for the latest posts, and remove duplicates / posts that are too new
• Use the YouTube API with my account and a pre-configured playlist, and replace all the videos with the new set
• repeat on a reasonable schedule
• docker container so that it's easy for me to manage

I think you are misunderstanding the goal of this. The article says that men "are less likely to ask doctors for help with a range of symptoms". Addressing this is a part of addressing toxic masculinity and historic inequities, and a part of the broader work of finding the appropriate healthcare intervention for each person instead of the traditional one size fits all approach.

I would rather that men go to doctors for health advice instead of trying to fix it on their own, or worse, going to online influencers for advice. Figuring out why that happens is a step towards changing it for the better. If this work actually produces results, it will be good for both men and women.

It's worth mentioning something in order to point out why it's bad? It's in the news right now and people are currently discussing it, and it's not like someone is going to read this article and be more likely to go support it

This article is saying that Omarchy isn't doing anything that novel or special, and that this developer is trying to create a tool that will allow anyone to do the same thing without millions of dollars of funding

I don't think this would work consistently, since creative work and inspiration take time and the detection errors might depend on the length of the work. I also think that making some groups of people jump through hoops before they can clear their name, because a generative algorithm said so, is only perpetuating the same problem.

Better would be to judge individual cases based on edit history + timestamps, and judging a tool based on multiple experiments like this. If it fails a few cases, then it should not be used.

Back when such "detectors" first popped up, our university sent out a guide to profs saying that they are unreliable and not to be trusted. We need similar education for more institutions since this isn't common knowledge yet.

I wouldn't use this day to day, but what I found cool was:

• it doesn't require cables or any additional equipment (including routers, cell towers)
• it can't be detected by anything, assuming you toss a blanket over the transfer

The downside is that if you wanted to get it truly offline, you would need to have the an app installed on both devices ahead of time, if I understood it correctly. (Edit: bolded bits are new)

It might even be helpful to do away with QR codes altogether and slowly teach people to not scan random QR codes when paying.
