I'd say a police raid to the offices of Mullvad with the police returning empty handed is a pretty good guarantee

I have noticed similar issues recently and also suspect their DNS is to blame.

Which company has a better reputation Lenovo or ASUS?

AFAIK the ad/spyware wasn't BIOS level, it was "only" bundled with the preinstalled windows. Also, while it doesn't exonerate lenovo, the spyware doesn't exist anymore.

This is now the second time in a short period of time that I stumble across someone who didn't know the subscriptions page existed. Or at least that is how I interpreted what you said.
I always thought it was obvious that the main feed is for discovering new stuff based on watch history and the ol trusty content can be found in the sub box. It is always fascinating to see how differently people use software I use daily while thinking it is how everyone does it

Sync for Lemmy signup is now open
Reply in thread
This. Sync was so nice to use that I find myself trying to use all the swipe actions sync had in all of the not so good lemmy apps currently available. None of them are as polished as sync was (and hopefully the lemmy version will be).

It was 15 euros earlier today, what happened?

My thoughts about your first few points:
I, and many others it seems, think the Sync for Reddit app was priced almost too low. Only a few dollars for an app isn't sustainable for the dev in the long run. I believe people using reddit sync with ads actually supported the dev more than people buying the app.
The reddit API was free, so it technically didn't have ads if you used some ad-free (FOSS) 3rd party app. Sync for lemmy isn't any different in that sense.
Sure, the lemmy devs and instances also need money to run the service. People are free to and should donate to them as well. Sync for lemmy, however, isn't costing instances any more than FOSS apps.
The rest of your points are just personal preference, really. If you like the app, buy it or use it with ads. If you don't like the app, use something else. Honestly surprised by how much hate an app no one is forcing people to use is getting.

Why do you use firefox?
I've been using FF for years now, probably since the quantum update. Tbh, the thing that prevented me to switch to any other browser since is the ctrl+tab functionality. I HATE cycling through tabs in any other order than by most recent tab. I didn't find a setting to change it on chrome when I was forced to use it for work, but in FF it's easily found in the settings and probably was on by default at some point as I don't recall ever changing it.
In recent years the privacy aspect and the fact that it isn't made by google have also played a role in why I've stuck with firefox. Also extension support on android, although the browser is still a bit slower than chrome on mobile.

It's so nice to see them all growing, but this is just the truth, sorry.

So what exactly is the problem here? If Sync gets bought and you don't like the new owner, you can stop using it and move on..

What can you do on Linux that you can't do on Windows?
Reply in thread
Same but with scanners. Plugged in a canon protable scanner, which requires their software to work on windows while it just works on linux. The cherry on top was that when I then had to make a single pdf of the things i scanned, I just ran pdfunite file1.pdf file2.pdf ... output.pdf and guess what... it also just worked.

My brother claims that Vanguard for League can do the same to gaming PCs that install it as CrowdStrike did to businesses who installed that, is this true? Does Vanguard have as much access/power?

Valve must be doing something right behind the scenes. I haven't encountered a hacker since May and play regularly. To be fair, back then the game was unplayable.

Any *good* keyboard recommations?
Reply in thread
I use openboard and it does exactly what I want it to do: it displays characters I can type out myself. I don't use swipe typing, predictions or autocorrect as those never work well enough, usually exclusively giving shit suggestions or corrections. I also use three languages daily, so I'd have to constantly switch the keyboard language, if I had autocorrect/predictions/swipe turned on.
I do understand that my use case is not the norm, but I still wanted to give my two cents.

Tips for Smart TVs?

I started using the webos port of kodi + jellyfin addon. It was surprisingly easy to install and doesn't require rooting. Kodi plays all the DV profiles I've tried. Only issue was a slight audio delay, but once I dialed that in it has worked flawlessly ever since.
