What's the quickest way to learn Spanish?

Reply in thread

Immersion does work, but here's a more enjoyable version:

Take 4 years in school, don't learn enough to talk to anyone.

Marry a Latino/a.

Go visit their original country with them.

Feel like an idiot.

Practice with your spouse.

Go back and feel less like an idiot.

This has the advantage of getting a hot spouse, and slightly less likely to be killed before you learn enough.

Is it just me, or when you become "the tech guy", family and friends become extremely entitled to your help?

I help out people where I can. Some are great, and grateful. Some break things much worse, or insist that the computer spontaneously deleted their data. You do need to set boundaries, and be candid about your own: "You call yourself a computer guy?" "No, I call myself an embedded software developer, I haven't touched a Windows box in ten years, other than yours".

Do realize that a lot of people are genuinely victims of their own tech, these days. There are people who'd probably rather not use a computer, but have no choice.

As a young American, how do I motivate myself to work? It feels like the entire system is a scam and it's pointless to even try.

TL; DR Get in on the scam.

Pick something you like to do, or have a talent for, and plan a path to make money from it. You may still have to work for someone else initially, to develop skills and get experience, but it will be better than doing a shit job only for money.

Research what resources there are to support your startup. Even in places where there is no help from government or anything else for individuals, you will find they want to support business.

Especially if you have extra challenges, if you get good, they will make a narrative around your success and promote you as an example.

Anyone think that manual "pouring techniques" are mostly fluff?

I do believe blooming is good, the first pour should be gentle and get the grounds wet, and the second pour should be from higher up, to agitate the grounds. There are probably other ways to get the same results. People tend to mess around with whatever techniques they can, do something that makes a better cup, and settle on that as the way to do it. There's more than one good way.
