Microsoft doing shady Microsoft stuff again
The problem obviously being that it is not the browser they want you too use, so they create "a problem".

This is the technology worth trillions of dollars huh
Well, it's almost correct. It's just one letter off. Maybe if we invest millions more it will be right next time.
Or maybe it is just not accurate and never will be....I will not every fully trust AI. I'm sure there are use cases for it, I just don't have any.

YSK: The Invention Secrecy Act is a US federal law authorizing the government to suppress disclosure of certain inventions for reasons of national security. 6,543 inventions are currently suppressed.
Anyone want to bet that there are inventions that are great but would cost some people serious money and that's why we're not seeing them?

Charging to tour rental properties...
Just people making passive income guys, nothing to see here.
We once heard of a service that would help us find a rental house. So we went there, had to pay for an appointment. Turns out they do nothing you cannot do yourself, and you pay a lot. They literally just put you in the system, which you can do yourself, and when you get a house through that system, which is free and from the government, they make you pay through the nose for that house.
Of course, since I am native in this country I have no need for a service like that. Turns out they mostly do this to people who don't speak the language. I guess they offer a service, but their fees are excessive for what they do. They abuse the fact those people don't know any better.
There's lots of people making a profit from somebody else's house finding misery and I hate it.

Chatbots are crap. I had to talk to one with my ISP when I had issues. Within one minute I had to request it to connect me to a real person. The problem I was having was not a standard issue, so of course the bot did not understand at all... And I don't need a bot to give me all the standard solutions, I've already tried all of that before I even contact customer support.

‘You can’t pause the internet’: social media creators hit by burnout
Funny. I follow some creators, but if they don't post I'll just check back later, and the content will still be relevant.
If your followers just leave you if you don't post, your content is probably shallow and doesn't really add much value to the world.
The algorithm is also fucked, but you use it to your advantage when you can, so can you really complain about the downside? This is what you choose to work with.
That being said, making good content is hard and really time consuming. So I get that there is stress.
But I believe if you make good solid content that suits you and your style, you don't need to get into a pissing contest with the algorithm. Upload when you want, make what you want and you will attract viewers. They are out there, and they will find you through searching.

Lemmings over 30 who try to stay active, what are you doing to accommodate for your incredibly decrepit bodies to avoid boo-boos?
I know this guy, did judo for at least 20 years. Stopped doing that, but kept doing the bodyweight training every other day. Push ups etc.
He's now 70. I hope I can be as fit and strong as he is by that age. He still does his exercises every other day, and he still works in the garden etc.
So, what I do is even if I don't go to the gym anymore, I try to do bodyweight stuff every other day or so. Push ups, belly exercises, squats, pull ups on something. Yes, the gym is more intense, but if I can keep this up for the rest of my life the gains will be there.
I also try to be careful about what I eat, and I'm failing hard at that. I do walk a lot though, I have an active job and also a dog.

Man, I really got hit with a "All men are predators, it's in the studies". 2nd wave feminism is a scourge on feminism itself.

Well I feel attacked. Because I am a man and I have never raped anyone. Yet, by such broad statements, I, and many other man are immediately put in the rapist category.
How would you like statements like all woman are thieves?
Doesn't feel right to put a lot of people in one category based on gender right? It is just as much bullshit.
Yes, most rape is from a man done to a woman. That does not mean that every man will rape woman. It's just not true, and you immediately lose any chance of having a normal conversation with a man if you start by accusing them of a crime. That there is no proof of, and did not happen in most cases.
Try opening up a conversation with any stranger on the street by accusing them of being a murderer. How long will that laat and how much are you going to achieve by that? It's just stupid.
If you want to change the world you have to talk to other people, build bridges and understand each other. Not wildy accuse each other of criminal behaviour just based on gender.
And that, is all the energy I am spending today on this nonsense.

What do you mean lots of experience? She knows what she likes and know how to please a man too? Oh no! Stay as far away as possible and give me her number because I think that is just what I want!

95% of Companies See ‘Zero Return’ on $30 Billion Generative AI Spend, MIT Report Finds
Reply in thread
Wages or health insurance are a very known cost, with a known return. At some point the curve flattens and the return gets less and less for the money you put in. That means there is a sweet spot, but most companies don't even want to invest that much to get to that point.
AI however, is the next new thing. It's gonna be big, huge! There's no telling how much profit there is to be made!
Because nobody has calculated any profits yet. Services seem to run at a loss so far.
However, everybody and their grandmother is into it, so lots of companies feel the pressure to do something with it. They fear they will no longer be relevant if they don't.
And since nobody knows how much money there is to be made, every company is betting that it will be a lot. Where wages and insurance are a known cost/investment with a known return, AI is not, but companies are betting the return will be much bigger.
I'm curious how it will go. Either the bubble bursts or companies slowly start to realise what is happening and shift their focus to the next thing. In the latter case, we may eventually see some AI develop that is useful.

These shipping tape things
I use them everyday. I work in logistics. Trick number one is to have special tape that isn't as loud when unrolling it.
Tip number two is just use your finger to put the first bit on, hold it with the finger and do the rest. At the end, push the top part against the box to make the knife cut the tape.
Wipe over the tape with your finger if needed, some tapes and kinds of carton don't have much holding power. If you move your fingers over the tape, you'll heat up the glue and it will stick better.

What have you heard people say that screams "I have lived my life in a Westernised bubble and have no idea how the world is" ?

Even worse. Recently I was watching a video in Dutch, and it decided to automatically translate the sound to English. AI generated. That was just...it sounded so fucked up.
And why does YouTube think it needs to do that? If I want that, I'll so it myself.

I remember that scene. If I remember, he broke the handcuffs shortly after, without any trouble at all.
But yes, the situation in America is very shortly and it just keeps getting worse and worse.
