Majority of gamers play with subtitles turned on

And I feel this is an escalating problem. Sound mixing is generally horrible in both games and movies/TV. Unless you blow out your speakers during the higher peaks, you've got no chance of hearing dialogue.

Does anyone have any clue to why this is such a well-spread phenomenon? Why is it like this? I mean, I get it (kinda) at a cinema, but I think it's way overplayed there as well.

Hello from kbin ^^
But yes, totally agree. I really like the atmosphere here. I've been keeping tabs on Fediverse ever since Matrix started becoming a thing, but this was the push I needed to get into it. And in many ways it feels like the internet of old, before we all consolidated to huge social media sites. But better. I like it.

Paid maternity leave is a thing

This is old and/or incorrect. Sweden should really be included, since we have 480 (~70 weeks) days of paid leave for one child. Finland and Denmark has 50 weeks, and Norway has 59.

In a household with two parents you get 240 days each, and if you're a single household you get all 480 days.

Spotify Alternative for streaming server

The only thing I can think of would be Roon. Some drawbacks though. It's proprietary and it's a paid service. It's very, very good for playing and streaming local music though. They put a lot of work in to their metadata, and do have recommendations in place. You can also get artists/songs/albums like this. There's no curated lists yet, but AFAIK it's in the pipeline.

I use it for all my local music. Both at-home and outside streaming work great. There's still some work for them to do with tagging more obscure styles correctly, like Future funk.

What streaming services do you pay for?

The streaming services I do pay for are mostly music, or smaller stuff I want to support.

  • Spotify
  • Roon (not really a streamingservice, but it lets me stream my music?)
  • Nebula
  • Youtube premium
  • Draken film (Swedish streaming service for art/independent film)

I'm thinking about grabbing a Deezer or Tidal as well, as they integrate very well with Roon
