Overall I'd say it feels bittersweet. It sucks that reddit is being screwed over, but it could be really good for lemmy as a whole as long as we get through the growing pains. I like our community but it could use more people posting/commenting and driving up the engagement. Some communities are just too sparse right now.

It's kind of unrelated but I think the lack of downvotes pairs well with lemmy's lack of vote counting (a.k.a karma score). Counting your internet points always feels so performative to me and kinda ruins the point of upvotes in the first place.

This is really nice to see, glad he's taking a vocal stance as opposed to ignoring everything.

Oddly enough I feel like I'm going to miss the UX from boost more than the subreddits themselves. Even the better ones have so much negativity in the comment sections that there's no point in participating in the conversations, even with the wealth of content compared to Lemmy currently.

Looking forward to the growth from Lemmy apps such as Jerboa and Mlem.

Beehaw is hosted on DigitalOcean, not sure what price range at this point as I know it's been upgraded recently. It's really easy to spin up one of their "droplets" and get started on a project.

I just got a 14$ droplet with 1 vCPU and 2 gigs of ram with weekly backups. I like their interface and have been happy with it overall so far. Hoping to start up my own lemmy instance for learning purposes, though a bit daunting as apparently the docker instructions are incomplete.

Beehaw.org is run off Digital Ocean, they currently have 16 vCPUs and 32 gigs of ram. They plan on hopefully scaling back down once the whole reddit migration situation has calmed down.

I wish intel got more attention in this field. I have an a380 in my homeserver and its great for lighter tasks such as transcoding a handful of streams at a time. They've been putting a lot of effort into improving the drivers for gaming as well as general use.

What's the source on that? That's a pretty big accusation but I'd certainly want to know if it's true.

This is fascinating, but I'm having a hard time grasping something. The title and article mentions that porn addiction itself is not backed by science, but the findings seem to just indicate what the most common predictor for porn addiction is religiosity rather than the previously theorized availability through the internet. Am I misunderstanding something here? I think I'll give it another read...
