Work from home

My guess is that some businesses get tax breaks from municipalities in exchange for filling office spaces with warm bodies. The idea is that people in office buildings support local businesses by buying lunch, and sometimes grabbing a pint after work.

I’m not trying to excuse this trend, in fact as an IT person myself I 100% agree with the sentiment, I’m just trying to share what I’ve been told.

Looks like google domains is no more.

My order of preference for domain registrars is:

  1. Cloudflare (doesn’t support all TLDs, unfortunately)
  2. Porkbun (does have wide TLD support, and has no-bullshit pricing, albeit higher than Cloudflare)
  3. Namecheap. They’re cheap and Canadian… no other reason than just a backup to have.

Getting Over a Breakup

Trying to understand why will cause you even more pain. My advice: treat it as a funeral/loss of a loved one. The time has simply come. Do your mourning and move on. Dwelling on it will only cause my pain and reopen old wounds.

higher wages for the servers... by the customers. Fnbs

I bet legally, the establishment owners aren't required to give "service charges" to their staff the same way they are required to give 100% of the tips...

This is some shady shit, IMO.

Disclaimer: I'm not a lawyer (so I don't know WTF I am talking about), so if someone here that knows the law could comment on "service charges" vs. "tips" in this context, I would love to know.

How trustworthy is mega.nz?

Reply in thread

KimDotCom’s original MegaUpload did get shut down after a police raid. However, he rebooted the site with zero knowledge encryption 2013. The new site is mega.nz and it’s been running for quite some time. You can read about it here.

Lemmy.ca downtime Jan 5th/6th - Whew, we're finally back!

Wow, that’s pretty shitty service, considering that renting a physical server is likely not a small client thing. I’m also floored that a rack PDU failure was not detected and acted upon more proactively by their datacenter operations team, and necessitated a ticket to be opened by you. OVH really does seem to be the Temu of colo/hosting providers. Yikes!
