Average C-Level

I actually worked for two of them at once. It's quite a cult mentality. You even get swag if you make it to list, such as a tote bag which says "I made it to Forbes 30U30" with big bold letters.

They all follow more or less the same routine: wake up very early, do a million niche sports and share their "unique" experiences on LinkedIn, such as that one night in the woods which took their career to the next level.

They appear busy while getting nothing meaningful done, hire bunch of consultants for making decisions, and delegate even the smallest executable to someone else because "their time is more valuable".

The difference between them and you is that they are really good at grifting, networking, selling their failures and shortcomings as a success story.

I have yet to meet one that truly made a difference: The entrepreneurial hero who made a tangible difference by getting their hands dirty and creating value for the greater good. Until then, I will keep believing in the stereotypes.

No, Cyberpunk 2077's elevators aren't just loading screens in disguise, says lead: "The engine is a miracle. I will not accept slander."

If the engine is indeed a "miracle", then why ditch it for UE5?

Not holding the person accountable, it's probably a shortsighted "management" decision to ditch an engine that had been improved an order of magnitude since the launch.

All is see is more costs and money down the drain to get the developers up to speed and as productive.

Can someone in game dev enlighten me, please?

YSK Tempur Mattresses fail quickly and the warranty is fake

Reply in thread

Slightly off-topic: Is there a similar website for sofas?

When I moved out, I was in a hurry and bought one after testing it for comfort for about thirty seconds. Turns out, it is, and most their product are, drop-shipped, low quality garbage.

It started falling apart after a month. Been postponing the purchase for about two years because I am not able to find reliable sources of information to guide my purchase decision.

Great sources for a mattress though. Guess I will cop one soon, as I bought my current one from Wayfair, same shit. Good riddance!

Someone should really do something

At work, I have built a tool that creates Linux images on demand. Long story short, I decided to give them a human readable alias. Told my colleagues that image aliases are generated from a pool of hand-picked bird names, and did not elaborate further.

I am looking forward to see the face of the first person to discover rough-faced-shag or cock-tailed-tyrant :^)

I personally strongly advise against committing IDE junk to version control. Assuming your IDE workspace defaults are "sane" for the rest of the contributors is not a good practice.

Apple App Store suggests ChatGPT Chinese malware clone front and center

Reply in thread

You need a developer license to distribute an app on Apple's App Store. It costs 99 USD per year.

Platform choice is determined by your target audience and your goals. I previously developed for both iOS and Android. Without mass adoption, Linux mobile apps would not be economically feasible.

My position is different as a hobbyist but I do not have a use case for a Linux mobile app at the moment.

Tony's chocolonely - Dutch chocolate *without* child slavery!

I love Tony's as much as the next guy. However, be aware that a test conducted in 2022 found high levels of lead in Chocolonely Dark Chocolate variant.

Consistent, long-term exposure to even small amounts of heavy metals can lead to a variety of health problems. The danger is greatest for pregnant people and young children because the metals can cause developmental problems, affect brain development, and lead to lower IQ, says Tunde Akinleye, the CR food safety researcher who led this testing project.

Bandcamp prohibits music made ‘wholly or in substantial part’ by AI

This is a noble pursuit but I am curious about the classification criteria.

How would you treat those who used it as a tool for composition, progression ideas compared to those who literally create the entire thing using generative methods?

Because as per the article, impersonating an artist is forbidden. What stops me from asking an LLM "Give me 5 chord progressions and scales that sound like Adele" and glue it together? How could it be detected?
