Is there really no decent way to access a UPnP media server on Linux?

Here's my situation. I have an Asus router that allows me to connect an external drive to it and then it can function as a UPnP media server. Back when I was on Windows It worked perfectly. It always sat in the sidebar of the file explorer and I could just drag and drop files to and from it, download stuff directly onto it or play movies just by double clicking them

I moved to a Fedora-based distro (Nobara) a few months ago and have been unable to access the server the same way. I know it works, because if I open VLC I can access it under "Universal Plug'n'Play" and see my movies, but for the life of me I can't get it to show up in Dolphin or any other file explorer I've tried. I've resorted to turning on FTP on the router and mounting the drive with rclone, which somewhat works for my use case, but it's slow and occasionally just refuses to connect because sessions don't seem to get closed properly and I get a "Too many connections" error.

My google-fu appears to have failed me, because I have genuinely found nothing, besides just using Kodi or VLC. I also found a few threats from like a decade ago complaining about the UPnP support on KDE, but I would have expected things to have improved since then. Is what I'm trying to achieve here just not possible?

Adapting GZCLP to 2 days per week

I've been hitting the gym 3 times a week for about two years now and seen pretty good results. Well, life happened and I can't really find the time for that anymore, so I'm trying to adapt my routine for twice a week. Was wondering if anybody has an opinion on it.

For most of my fitness journey I've been doing GZCLP with variation exercises for tier 2 and the rep range for tier 1 modified to 3x5, then 3x4, then 3x3, because who even has the time to do 10 sets of 1 rep? Now that I will only be going to the gym twice a week my genius idea is the smash the 4 GZCLP days into 2, while following a similar progression scheme to the original. Something like this:

Day 1:

  • T1 Barbell squat
  • T1 Overhead press
  • T2 Romanian deadlift
  • T2 Incline dumbbell bench press
  • T3 Lat pulldown

Day 2:

  • T1 Deadlift
  • T1 Barbell bench press
  • T2 Split squats
  • T2 Dumbbell shoulder press
  • T3 Lat pulldown

So far I've done one week of this and feeling ok. I tried to superset the T2 lifts, but the general fatigue is getting a bit too much that way so I'll probably stop. Any thoughts on what I can change or do you guys think this is a balanced enough workout?

Finished my girlfriend's birthday present

A few months ago I was wondering what to get my girlfriend for her birthday. Her favourite animal is the guinea fowl, so when I saw a pattern for one, I decided I will learn to crochet and make her a guinea fowl plushie.

Well, after a lot of youtube tutorials, a few small and one medium-sized project, last week I decided it's time and started working on the bird.

Took me a few days of on and off crocheting, but I just finished and OMG, I love it!

It's certainly not perfect, the seams around the neck are absolutely tragic, but overall, I'm very happy with how it turned out.

Neck pain after doing OHP

Yesterday I was doing overhead press for 3x8 at 30 kilos. I felt a slight pain/tightness towards the back left side of my neck and today it's quite a bit worse. Nothing unbearable, but I can't tilt my head to the back left. I don't think I'm ego lifting but this has happened once before. Any tips for a faster recovery and what I can do to prevent it in the future?

Also, weirdly enough the pain is on the left side and it hurts when I tilt my head left, so when that muscle contracts. I would have expected it to hurt when stretched, no?

Can I use raw honey when making caramels?

A lot of recipes suggest adding corn syrup or honey to the sugar in order to make crystallization less likely. I'm not in the US, so corn syrup pretty much doesn't exist, but I have a jar of raw and therefore very crystalized honey that I got from a friend who keeps bees. Will using that still help? I'm thinking that all the imperfections like pollen or wax in raw honey will just make the caramel even more likely to crystalize.

Should I get this bent wheel repaired?

So, a few months ago I ran into a pothole and got a bubble on my tyre. It was almost time to switch to winter tyres so I kept driving for a few more weeks with no issues, put winters on and that was that. Today I went to get the summers installed and replace the one with the bubble and the mechanic pointed out that I also bent the rim on that pothole. I hadn't noticed the damage, nor any vibrations and it's still holding air perfectly. It's now mounted in the rear, where it will hopefully be under less stress (I drive a Yaris). I can get a new wheel, but not for the next few weeks and I do need to drive in the meantime, so my question is, should I bother getting this wheel repaired? The damage doesn't seem big and from what I've heard straightening aluminium wheels sometimes leads to cracks, which will just make the situation worse than it already is. I'd rather have a wheel that's probably usable than one that definitely isn't.

Edit: I should point out, the winter tyres are on a different set of rims. I've only driven on this wheel for about 2 weeks, from when I hit the pothole until I had the winter tyres installed. Today I had it put back on the car and the mechanic pointed out the damage to me.

GZCLP questions

So I'm pretty new to the gym and on my second week of GZCLP. I'm curious what the reasoning is for no AMRAP set in the tier 2 exercises. I was under the impression muscles grow more when pushed close to failure, so why wouldn't you want to do that in the low weight/high rep sets?

Also on a slightly related note: can I do the tiers out of order? If for example the squat rack is taken, can I do my tier 2 bench press first and my tier 1 squats afterwards or is that not recommended for some reason?

I've been enjoying exercise recently.

I'm 25 and I've never really exercised much. I've tried jogging, cycling, etc but always bounced off after two or three weeks. While not fat or anything I was definitely way out of shape

Half a year ago I moved into an apartment building right next to a gym and in December I decided to start going to it. It was a struggle, but I tried to be consistent over the last 3 months

Anyway, yesterday I was about to begin a new training program and realised that I was actually looking forward to going to the gym. After hating most forms of exercise for 20-something years I finally wanted to work out.

I'm lowkey proud of myself

Heat: Pedal to the Metal is great fun

Got the game a couple of days ago and so far we've had 4 sessions with 2-3 players. I know racing board games are generally kinda bad but we've been having a blast with this one. It's a hand management game, which means it's not quite as random as something with dice rolls like Formula D, while still having some unpredictability. It's relatively easy to learn and pretty intuitive once you've played a few rounds. There are also some very simple, but effective bot mechanics, so you can have a great game with only two players or even solo.

It's also really pretty and incredibly thematic. Everything is based on 60s Formula 1, which the F1 fan in me loves.

Can I replace only one tire if the other 3 aren't very worn?

For context, I drive a Toyota Yaris on 17 inch wheels. I hit a pothole and got a bubble on my front right tire (the pain of running low profile tires). Anyway, I bough these tires something like 6 months ago and only have 5000-ish kilometers on them. The other 3 still look in perfect condition. I know it's normally recommended to replace tires in pairs, but is that really needed here considering how new the set is? Feels stupid to replace a tire that is practically new.

Just finished Red Dead Redemption 1 and Undead Nightmare on PC using the Xenia emulator

It’s a great game and I’m so glad I finally got to play it.

I’m running a RTX 2070 Super and a Ryzen 5 3600 with 32 gigs of RAM. Using Xenia-Canary I could run the game at 1080p with decent framerate, but that caused some really unpleasant brightness issues at night, so I stuck with 720p and honestly stopped noticing the low resolution after a while. The game ran at a stable 60 all the way to the end and I encountered absolutely no issues besides some flickering shadows once or twice.

If you have a decent gaming PC and have never played the original RDR I strongly recommend you try this. It can be a bit of a faff to find what emulator settings work for you, but once you get it working properly, it’s an absolute blast. RDR still holds up really well in my opinion.
