Can things exist without anyone being aware of their existence?

Animals are sometimes declared 'extinct' (no one is aware of any living examples) while they still exist (sometimes for decades).

Until 1967, noone was aware of the existence of gamma-ray bursts, the result of the biggest explosions in the universe. The bursts were only visible to specialized satellites.

Right now, people are suffering from diseases caused by unknown viruses.

TIL: There are 27.4 Empty Homes for Each Homeless Person in the U.S

They should never have been allowed to become gambling chips.

Noone should be allowed to purchase a home without agreeing to live in it full time for at least a year afterwards. Split it into a duplex to become a landlord? Another year. Wanna be a landlord? You must live in that building full time along with your tenants. Outrageous? Not nearly as outrageous as homelessness because of the prices.

Schools are using AI to spy on students and some are getting arrested for misinterpreted jokes and private conversations

Lots of wannabe authoritarians out there in educationland.

All those decades that the schools just -couldn't afford- more (well-educated) teachers and smaller class sizes. Lots of low-end look-good.

And then along came tech, and lo-and-behold, IT was going to be the savior. Let's buy into that! We may not be able to teach them to read, write or think, but they can learn to kneel!

‘This is stealing’ ; Instagram account lets you squat in metro homes

It's my opinion that housing is so basic a need that no house should be allowed to use for a gambling chip.

The 'housing market' needs to be broken in favor of individual ownership. (For many, speculation has driven ownership out of reach.)

Only individuals may purchase individual homes, and must agree to occupy them as their primary and only residences until they sell and vacate them. (Live-in landlords included, e.g. boarders.)

As part of the deal, they must first find another individual buyer (under the same terms) for their present home.

(Futher stipluations needed, but none that permit violation of the above principle. )

NASA investigates vision disorder affecting 70% of astronauts

Maybe "2001 A Space Odyssey" had the right idea ... spinning a whole big station to produce 1G. (Arthur C. Clarke was part of the writing team.)

Discussion here sez it takes a radius of 224m at 2rpm: https://space.stackexchange.com/questions/281/what-would-the-size-and-rotation-of-a-station-need-to-be-to-produce-1g-gravity-f

At this site you can play with the parameters: https://www.artificial-gravity.com/sw/SpinCalc/
