PieFed has a mobile app

Also good to mention Interstellar also has a test flight for iOS and macOS as well. Meaning Interstellar will work on any platform (Android, iOS, Linux, macOS, Windows).

An update for Interstellar will be released tomorrow with additional PieFed API support, including PieFed notifications

Mbin security disclosure

For kbin.earth users:

I upgraded to v1.8.4 (the safe version) immediately once I saw the private message from the Mbin devs, so hopefully we weren't exposed for too long. There are no known users of that endpoint, so we are not even sure if data was leaked or not.

Either way, to stay on the safe side, it's recommended that you reset your password and reset your 2FA (disable and then re-enable it).

Is Interstellar Dead?

No, it's not dead. There have so far been 50 commits since the last update, which you can see on GitHub. We've been slowly working on the v0.10.0 release and just needed more time for this update. I will admit I've been fairly busy IRL, but I am still trying to work on this update; @olorin99 has thankfully contributed a ton of changes though.

The two big features you can expect are client feeds (which combine community and user posts into one view, on the client side), and also rules (which is a filter lists replacement that provides much more functionality in both matching content and acting on it).

I hope this helps; let me know if you have any questions.

what happened to kbin?

I don't think there is a way to donate (monetarily) directly to Mbin, at least not at the moment.

The second best thing might would be to donate to server admins, which a lot of them actually are Mbin developers anyway.

What to choose between Lemmy, Mbin and PieFed, features-wise?

(Interstellar dev here) Not sure what you mean by alpha. Sure, Interstellar could always use improvements, but that's the same as with any app. I, and I'm assuming many other people, daily use Interstellar, and mainly without any issue.

If you have any specific feedback you'd like to provide, I am very welcome to it. Many times that people have mentioned a bug/issue, I've tried to incorporate a change that would fix said issue within an update or so (several were even incorporated in the update that was just released).

I will admit, we need more developers working on Interstellar, but someone making a whole new Mbin app would do completely the opposite of what Interstellar needs (it would mean fewer potential developers working on Interstellar).

I've worked hard on this app for over a year at this point, and I would have considered it alpha at the beginning, but at this point, it is definitely ready for general use and not "alpha". As the solo "active" contributor (I appreciate all the not as active contributors as well), I just can't work on everything all at once.

Hetzner prices have skyrocketed (up to 3x); how will this affect your Fediverse server?

I think it would be nice to be able to completely self-host (on my own hardware), but I've always wondered what you are supposed to do about power/internet outages? It's not frequent at all, but there will be a few days out of the year where power is completely out (due to a storm for instance). Similarly, internet gets a bit spotty after a heavy storm. Maybe I shouldn't be worrying about 100% uptime too much though, as I am offering a free service. Still, if I can help it, I'd prefer people not to have a 5-day period when they can't access the server at all.

I'm the one who made the website. Do you think if we just brightened the outlines around the ui elements that that would help with the contrast?

To me, it looks fine, but if changing something made it better for other people, I'm all for it.
