I'm not sure what the correlation is between gnome 3 and standalone window managers. Initially i switched because i liked the idea of it being more minimal, but i also like the dynamic tiling model, which is something that doesn't seem to work as well with most DEs, aside from maybe cosmic, but atp i have no reason to try it.

Yes, openbox is a standalone window manager. I used it as my first standalone window manager years ago before i moved on to tiling.

I think your problem with tiling is a matter of switching mental model, or it's just not for you. But you're right, having like 5 or 8 windows open on a given workspace on a dynamic tiler is not a good experience, which is why i never open more than 3 or 4 windows on a given workspace. I either close what i don't need or send it to another workspace. The benefit of tiling is that you don't have to bother arranging your windows cause it already does it for you, and you can see all windows that are open at a glance. Even in a floating environment i doubt having 8 windows open at once is a good experience. You're gonna be doing a lot of alt-tabbing and clicking the window you want to switch to, or whatever keybind DEs use for that.

People keep saying this, and i can't entirely rule out that idea, but on the other hand i can't help but feel like it would be very stupid for rockstar to attach themselves to a cryptoscam. The crypto part of the leaks just makes them look really bad if they are truly behind this.

Yeah i never bothered with separate /home because it feels like such a balancing act to decide on size compared to root. Especially when you use nix/guix, it would be annoying to have a small root with the store filling up over time and having to do garbage collecting often. Also, i just back up whatever files i want to make sure i don't lose, and when i do a clean install i actually want everything to be wiped anyway, including home.

For me it was old parts i had laying around from older builds, but still relatively modern stuff. Makes me kinda happy i didn't sell it off. The only new thing i actually bought was a 12TB HDD.

When it comes to this i personally tend to agree with what Brodie Robertson always says in his videos about SteamOS. It's kinda silly to keep waiting for an official release when things like Bazzite exist, but if the SteamOS release helps with more people making the switch, then that's still a good thing in the end.

I legit don't understand how people are even using windows anymore these days. For the first time in years i did a bare metal install because my dumbass wanted to play gta online, which now has anticheat, so i decided to dualboot. First attempt to install the installer completely shit itself and the screen went black, could not recover from it. Even a full reboot did not resume the install process, so i had to run the install all over again. Now that it's finally installed i keep having weird issues with my rgb and fan control software randomly deciding to not autostart, and manually starting them does not work, or my fans just start spinning at max speed uncontrollably, and the only way to fix it is to do a reboot. Windows 11 has been out for years now right? It still feels like beta quality software, shit just keeps breaking, and then people have the gall to say windows just works lol.
