Holy shit this game is hard. It's also wildly inconsistent in terms of quality with absolute peak shines being sandwiched between straight up garbage. The movement is a fantastic evolution of SM64 and almost feels more exploitable while being less janky

I don't think I've simultaneously loved and hated a game so much

Been on a GameCube era #RetroGaming kick and picked up Super Monkey Ball 2 to play the mini games with friends. Decided to try out the single player to unlock more mini games and was absolutely blindsided by this banger of a track

Me and a buddy's survival #Minecraft build. It's a combination item sorter, creeper farm, and bamboo farm. The creepers and bamboo get funneled into a central chamber where they fall and can be used for firework rockets

Caught an #N64 #Everdrive just in time. Anyone got games or #romhacks to recommend? I had the console growing up so I've played most of the classics

Finished up Yoshi's Island. Fantastic game and shows off how far ahead Nintendo was back then. My biggest complaint is that near the end there were way too many autoscrollers and maze levels. Autoscrollers can be fine but maze levels are always the worst part of any Super Mario game

Overall not as good as Super Mario World (the GOAT), but I'd put it in the same tier as Super Mario Wonder. If you have any interest in platformers it's definitely worth playing even if you're not into #RetroGaming

Started playing #StarOfProvidence last night cause I'm a bit of a #Dunkey stan and it definitely slaps. It wastes no time getting you into the action and it does not let up until you die. There are tons of action rougelites out there but I think this stands up among the best for providing a pure shot of adrenaline. I've been playing a lot of retro games recently and it's great seeing old-timey arcade sensibilities with a very modern coat of paint

Finished Super Castlevania 4 yesterday, some thoughts for #RetroGaming

• Movement, combat, music were all fantastic as everyone says
• I hadn't seen the rotating room or tunnel before and they managed to wow despite being, you know, 30+ years old
• Nothing was too difficult, but the back half had enemy placements that were either tedious or unfair. That's except for Slogra. Fuck Slogra
• Dracula was a fantastic final boss

Overall really happy with this one! Kirby Super Star is next on my list

Finally got the SNES set up and I'm playing Super Castlevania 4 for the first time and holy moly it's fantastic. I'm having a way easier time getting into it than DKC 2 which came as a surprise. The movement and combat feel super tight and I love that you can moonwalk up and down stairs

Finished replaying Ocarina of Time over the weekend and I'm relieved to say that it still slaps (hot take, I know)

The worst parts of the game, imo, are how much time you spend in menus and traversal, with the Water Temple being the biggest offender

Aside from that though the pacing is actually fantastic, with big story beats hitting quick and hard particularly at the beginning and end of the game

The final battle in particular is insanely hype

Did you have any favorite 4 player party games growing up? I've got some old-ish (PS2, Wii) and old (N64) consoles set up, also planning to get a Xbox/Xbox 360. I wanna bring back classic game nights

Smash Bros, Mario Kart, and Mario Party are a given. Gotta get Halo as well. But I'm sure there's a lot of great games I missed

For the first time ever, someone is now holding the world record in all 5 major speedrun categories, 120 star, 70 star, 16 star, 1 star, and 0 star. The runner #GreenSuigi has pulled off what might be the single greatest accomplishment in speedrunning history. A clean sweep of the single most competitive game ever
