GOP Senator Admits Biden Bribery Tapes Might Not Exist After All
Whaaaat? At least Hunter Biden's laptop is still full of incriminating evidence, right? And we're going to get to see their amazing health care plan? And they're going to lock up Hillary any moment? And we're finally going to get that proof Obama is from Kenya? And...

Kbin.social Russia megathread
This is going to give Ukraine a lot of breathing room. Not only does it take Wagner Group out of the picture, but Putin is going to bed to devote already thinly stretched military resources to try and contain a coup.
Long-term, this could be troubling. As fascist as Putin is, Prigozhin is a straight up Nazi. Russia somehow pushing even further to the right is a scary thought. Hopefully Prigozhin and Putin soften each other up enough to allow more progressive elements to consolidate power, but I'm not holding my breath.

Buying an EV? Don't Waste Your Money on That Sporty AWD Model
Reply in thread
Adding to this, AWD gives people a false sense of security and often leads to riskier driving behavior. It's just like you said, there is absolutely no substitute for knowing how to handle difficult road conditions, anything that extends your confidence beyond your ability is dangerous.

Opinions: What is a movie you genuinely like, that is rated below 60% on rotten tomatoes?
I enjoyed Bullet Train and Equilibrium.
A much harder stipulation is that it needs to be below a 60% audience score, too. I haven't found any there, yet, but it feels like it's more in line with the idea that the movie needs to be unpopular.

What things sound like an awful combination but are surprisingly good together?
Salt and anything sweet. Salt is a flavor enhancer and can make sweet flavors pop even more.

Walgreens pharmacist cites religion in denying meds to trans man
Reply in thread
My wife and I have already moved our prescriptions away from Walgreens and we never set foot in their stores over their repeated history of bullshit like this. I highly recommend everyone do the same because this is far from an isolated incident.

An authoritarian isn't simply the person at the top, it is also all of the people who support them. Authoritarians like the comfort of being told what's good and what's bad. Life is simpler when those difficult moral choices are made for you and you free yourself of the responsibility of them. They don't believe they're at fault if those choices end up being disastrous because they were just following along, it wasn't their idea after all.
Of course that's all nonsense, but the point is that it's a comfortable fiction which means it is very appealing to someone who is susceptible to that mindset.

Henry Kissinger at 100: Still a War Criminal
Always relevant whenever this monster is mentioned:
"Once you’ve been to Cambodia, you’ll never stop wanting to beat Henry Kissinger to death with your bare hands. You will never again be able to open a newspaper and read about that treacherous, prevaricating, murderous scumbag sitting down for a nice chat with Charlie Rose or attending some black-tie affair for a new glossy magazine without choking. Witness what Henry did in Cambodia – the fruits of his genius for statesmanship – and you will never understand why he’s not sitting in the dock at The Hague next to Milošević."
