Well, actually they can’t do much with their free speech either, because they need to play nice with whomever is in the office…

An Asian MIT student asked AI to turn an image of her into a professional headshot. It made her white with lighter skin and blue eyes.
Meanwhile every trained model on Civit.ai produces 12/10 Asian women...
Joking aside, what you feed the model is what you get. Model is trained. You train it on white people, it's going to create white people, you train it on big titty anime girls it's not going to produce WWII images either.
Then there's a study cited that claims Dall-e has a bias when producing images of CEO or director as cis-white males. Think of CEOs that you know. Better yet, google them. It's shit but it's the world we live in. I think the focus should be on not having so many white privileged people in the real world, not telling AI to discard the data.

Sadly, this. Average consumer, and I don’t mean it as an insult, will not look for an alternative to streaming. All these giant streaming companies are gauging how far they can go to increase the profit margins.

A Spanish agency became so sick of models and influencers that they created their own with AI — and she’s raking in up to $11,000 a month
Looks like a typical Stable Diffusion model. All of them have the same problem - lighting. It's always with that bad front facing "flash" effect.

Why You Should Self-Host Everything
I do self-host some services but it bugs me that a lot of articles that talk about costs do not factor in a lot of additional costs. Drives for NAS need replacement. Running NUCs means quite an energy draw compared to most ARM based SBCs.

Which music streaming server?
I use Navidrome. Really well made clients for anything, ability to select transcoding method (or lack thereof) based on a client, changing of following songs etc.

Scientists Create Gene-Hacked Monkey That Glowed Green
It’s great that peak scientific minds are trying to create green, glowing monkeys. It’s not like humanity is bothered by plethora of problems. Let’s chill and torture some monkeys instead.

I can’t tell if this is sarcasm or not.
Just in case it isn’t - it’s obviously reference to late DMX’s legendary song with the same title.

I think sadly you’d either way get much better performance with proprietary drivers especially if the focus is generative AI.

Does anyone actually like the default GNOME workflow?
I prefer GNOME to KDE but while I understand that there's research and philosophy behind some of the decisions, I just can't get around some of the quirks. "Workflow" itself is fine, with tiling on top, you can get by. But those window decorations… So much space is taken by a completely useless, fat bar at the top of each window even though it's not really aimed at being touchscreen native.

Mark Zuckerberg explained how Meta will crush Google and Microsoft at AI—and Meta warned it could cost more than $30 billion a year
Sadly, it seems Meta made some good decisions in LLM area at least. Llama is a de facto base of most good 7b and 13b LLMs, the ones that have potential on running on low grade hardware.

Whats a game that everybody seems to love that you cant stand for one reason or another?
The Witcher series. Around 15 years ago I've picked up Sapkowski's books. I made through one and a half. Can't stand his writing.
Horizon series - I watched my partner play through it and I can't think of a more bland, unimaginative world.

Red Bull suspend woman who accused Christian Horner of inappropriate behaviour
I believe this is a power play between Horner and Verstappen family at this point. I’m not defending anything Horner allegedly did, but it clearly isn’t just a workplace harassment case…
