Never tire of winning

Reply in thread

Nope, Trump is his parties verified candidate which happens at the convention. Dems have not had their convention yet so Biden was not officially the candidate. Semantics, yes but technically true.

Democrats immediately start calling Trump too old

Reply in thread

So you've never actually listened to one of his speeches then have you? He can't maintain a train of thought and usually doesn't finish a sentence before going off track and never finishing. He fell asleep at his own trial. He is absolutely too old and does all the things they accused Biden of. Biden was too old, so is Trump.

Water

Everyone is saying water but there is a feeling that most people seem to not recognize. Needing electrolytes is distinct from hungry or thirsty but just as important. If you crave a salty food that might be what you need. I figured it out by hiking and getting that feeling.

It's ok to not know something. You don't have to share an opinion that has no basis.

If you've ever done multi-day outside activities in the cold, you learn really quick to not wear cotton socks or under layers. Your sweat is what makes you cold because cotton will no longer provide a warm layer. Wool still has air pockets and will keep you warmer and may save your life or limbs.

Are you going to be comfortable in wet wool? No, but you have a better chance of surviving and not getting frostbite.

The foot gonna rob a bank

I have almost exclusively darn tough socks now and have for over 15 years at this point. I do eventually get worn areas in them but I never let them get anywhere near this bad. A small section of padding worn out is enough for DT to replace them for me. My main hobby is backpacking though so they get used hard and often. I would guess they last somewhere around 500 miles per pair for the micro crews. The business socks are also nice but wear out faster.

iFixit wants to fix the soldering iron

Reply in thread

It does not have an internal battery but can use any battery pack that can do 100W output.

I pre-ordered this for a few reasons. One, my experience with butane irons was very different than yours I guess. I hated how long they took and how finicky they were. Then I had to find a safe place to put it while it cooled. This has a cap that can handle the high temp with no issue.

When I need a portable iron it's to do small quick soldering with long waits in between. This seems perfect for that.

You've never driven one have you? Electric motors are crazy powerful and it's all torque. My Prius can accelerate faster than my Tacoma. What you are seeing in people driving a Prius is trying to save gas by not accelerating hard. Just because they often don't doesn't mean they can't when it's needed.

Pets do not significantly benefit the emotional health of owners with severe mental illness, study shows

Reply in thread

I understand where you're coming from and as a kid that sucks to be responsible for someone who is supposed to be caring for you.

Anecdotally, when I had mild depression I found the responsibility of a dog really helped me. It got me on daily walks and a schedule that helped me mentally. The cuddle part is nice but the responsibility is what I think really helped pull me out of a slump.

It's not for everyone and certainly not if you don't like dogs. Also actually severe mental issues need meds. The dog can't fix what is truly wrong in those cases.

It's funny because you are just doing the same thing in a different way. Tomatoes and mushrooms have msg naturally. The ketchup is mostly about adding some sugar.

A secret ingredient in a lot of sauces is anchovy paste and it's partly for the msg. It does make a sauce taste great though.

Check the nearest large city. For example, in Pennsylvania anyone in the state can sign up for the Philadelphia library even if you've never been to Philly. The process is entirely online.

I've also been told some libraries will let anyone sign up online for a yearly fee. Then you use the Libby app to borrow books.
