It's the other way around - the side projects were intended to diversify revenue so they're not comprehensive dependent on google for funding. If they're canning them then they haven't been profitable.

I have a (well managed) chronic illness. I have to go to lots of doctors at different clinics. All of them are in the habit of just collecting all the information.

For example, as a patient, there's no benefit to me whatsoever of the doctor being aware of the day and month of my birth. That's just the start though, they have my medical concession id number, addresses, et cetera.

If you express any reluctance at all, you're made to feel like a pariah. Like a COVID denier or something. For example, there was one clinic I want sure I would continue with, so when I was asked to fill out my details I asked whether it was really necessary given that I might not come on board as a patient, the receptionist and doctor just couldn't understand why I might be reluctant.

Last time I saw my GP he asked whether he could record our conversation... "it's some AI thing we're trialling". OMFG. Why on earth would I want that? Why would anyone want that? I want my GP who is an actual person to listen to my circumstances and determine the best course of action.

That guy Albanese is our PM which is similar to a president. His party is center left.

Every year on Australia day we declare someone to be Australian of the year. She was that person in 2018. She was recognised for her advocacy of survivors of abuse.

Anyhow, she was recently invited to some function with our current PM because she's so great, and he's not so terrible. She showed up with a shirt that says "fuck murdoch", referring to Rupert Murdoch, the guy that owns a bunch of media outlets and uses them to support conservative narratives.

In summary, her shirt says something every left leaning voter (and the PM) want to say, but usually wouldn't in polite company. She obviously just doesn't give a fuck about that.

I'm genuinely creeped out that someone saying these things can have so much support. Honestly I just want to go home and hide under the bed. A year ago when people said things about Trump like "authoritarian" and "fascist" and whatever else it was kinda true but also some hyperbole. Now it's just plain true.

You're absolutely right, and deep down I do agree that the civility with which we treat prisoners is the measure of society. Some countries more than others tend to engage in "revenge based" justice and its just yuck.

I got a bit carried away with my comment because lately my justice boner just keeps getting deferred or held over. It's been a long time.

You don't seem to have grasped the nuance of the conversation though.

Pushing back with more information is only a viable strategy when all parties are participating in good faith.

When the guest demonstrates a clear intent to spread obvious misinformation to further their own interests, discontinuing the conversation is the only recourse.

To say the same thing another way, the host did rebut the guest, but the guest carried on without responding to the rebuttal, intent on using the show as a platform to spread misinformation.
