CEO Who Said Safety Is a “Waste” on Board Lost Submarine

I work as a researcher in the university lab OceanGate used to test their vessels. My colleague told me that they would have tests run 7 times resulting in 6 failures and 1 success. OceanGate engineers (maybe their leadership?) would chalk that up as a success and keep going. My colleague says no one in the building would ever get into anything these "morons" built.

I assume there's a fair bit of hyperbole in this, but I think it generally is matching what we're seeing. Oh, also the general consensus here is that their hull caved in and they've been dead for a while.

Child care costs more than college in Washington state

That’s why we (UAW 4121) were fighting for a childcare fund for Research Scientists/Engineers. But UW didn’t want to set the precedent of Staff getting childcare. Because what’s next… the maintenance staff getting it as well?? Oh the fucking horror

Also, residents, postdocs, and grad students get the fund because they are classified as “trainees”. But if a postdoc eventually transitions into a research scientist role (instead of something like a tenure track position) they lose that fund?? It’s all fucking mental

[Episode Discussion] S2 Ep. 37 - Cut My Life Into Pizzas

I'm really enjoying the new Willy. Less scary (Anthony not going too too hard on the acting) but just as manipulative and evil.

I think Terry Jr.'s death has been the saddest death on the show (both seasons) and I'm not sure I can pinpoint why. I think it's partly seeing someone go through changes of being a misunderstood teen to being misunderstood by his own teen. It's a little bit of karma, irony, and sadness all mixed together. Especially since they didn't get that "Disney"-rules closure at the end.

Great stuff
