I don't think anybody can say beehaw is in any way representative of lemmy.ml politics. As far as I can see, it's the farthest thing from lemmy.ml or any other politics on either spectrum. I actually think beehaw is a fine example of how independent different instances can be.

Over the years I’ve become a glass half full kind of a person when small people fight against big corporations. Eventually the dust settles, and the people give up, but the company goes on. There are exceptions, but this has been the norm. I would be pleasantly surprised if all this actually brings Reddit’s downfall.

That might not work as you think it would because the rss feed does not include the discussions. For that you need to visit reddit, and discussions are what make reddit what it is. I'd much rather if they migrate here, but if that's not possible, at least if we have a bot crossposting stuff from there to here, so that we can have our own discussions going on that topic.

I didn't know api changes means 3rd party apps no longer can show nsfw content. Nobody's going to pay a subscription and not be able to see stuff that they can see on the official app. Looks like reddit is giving all 3rd party app developers a shitty deal whichever way you cut it.

Yeah I wouldn't have ever signed up for lemmy if this api thing hadn't come about. This is my first fediverse experience. I was pissed at reddit, but now I don't care about reddit one way or another. Lemmy has gained enough users to sustain itself even if there is no more mass migration. There is an active community here that will help lemmy grow organically over time.

That’s because fines are hilarious. I propose a ‘jail time’ for companies engaging in wrongdoing. Basically a timeframe for which they can’t operate. For small things they should stop operating for a day/few days/week/months/years with or without a chance for ‘parole’ after a period. Scale up based on the crime. For egregious crimes, it should be ‘life’ without a chance of parole. This would get companies to behave so fast you’ll get whiplash.

I think it's a bit too early for that for me. Currently I'm starting to participate in beehaw as well as use reddit on Apollo, so I don't mind if I don't see stuff here that I have(had) on reddit, but once Apollow shuts down, I'd be using beehaw/lemmy more than I use reddit, and at that point I might mourn some nice things that were destroyed by the reddit admin team.

Hi, I submitted a post earlier today requesting to create some kids related communities with friendlier names (/c/kidsbeingsilly, /c/kidsbeingsmart, /c/kidsbeingkids, or even just a /c/kids) for kids related posts instead of the reddit versions (/r/kidsarefuckingsmart and /r/kidsarefuckingstupid, which always makes me hesitate when I want to share posts to somebody I know). Is it possible to create one or more of those communities before July 1? I know I can create those on one of the other instances, but I think beehaw is the perfect place for something like that.
