What's a website you've heard of (besides Lemmy) that you're sure nobody else here has?
Woman got special government permission to go motorcycling in Chernobyl. She took pictures.
The site is still around.

What's an expensive purchase you've made recently and was it worth it?
My Berkey water filtration system. I got the travel size (1.5 gal). It's efficient enough to filter out food coloring, the water is a perfect pH 7, the water doesn't irritate my mouth sores like tap or bottled water (looking at you, Aquafina!) and the water just tastes better. Plus the filters are rated for 6,000 gallons. I'm better hydrated than I ever was.

What are the low-rated movies you enjoyed the most or think should be rated much higher?

What app/program do you wish existed and what does it do that you've not found elsewhere?

LDAP? It what AD is based on, at least originally. I haven't looked at either in 10+ years.

Any foods you prefer or can't stand depending on whether they are raw, fresh, pickled, cooked etc?

I used to hate raw tomatoes too until I followed Alton Brown's advice: only buy tomatoes in season and then only from road-side stands.
Turns out, he was right and I love tomatoes! AndI never buy any from the grocery store.

Do you use userscripts or other automation options like autohotkey? Which ones do you find most useful? Could you recommend some good sources(including lemmy communities) that are on the topic?

Is like to hear about some of these as well. I've been using Obsidian for years and never thought to have it do "something outside of Obsidian".
My main use of it is to sync my notes across different devices (and I'm not too crazy about taking notes in it).

What extensions would you absolutely recommend to someone who use Firefox?
Library extension. Go to as page selling a book (Amazon, Powell's, etc.) and the extension will show you if you're local library has the book, how many copies, and if they're available for checkout. You can then click through and put a hold on the book.
Great cure for impulse buying of books. I've read more and bought less since using it.

Data privacy: how to counter the "I have nothing to hide" argument?
Reply in thread
I’m all for privacy, but the argument I have nothing to hide ... is hard to argue with, when it comes to the average person, because the truth is that they don’t matter and most likely no-one cares about their specific data.
In that case, please post your real name, tax id (SSN in the States) and annual household income.
N.B. None of this information is private.

ChatGPT goes down — and fake jobs grind to a halt worldwide

Yeah, screw this guy. I came across him on YT. He goes out of his way to paint all AI as if it were an ineffectual, hype-only, resource hog with absolutely no redeeming qualities being foisted on us by EvilCorps everywhere who are simultaneously too dumb to know that it’s a farce.
What told me he was just going for eyeballs (gotta admit, his marketing is good! I see this mofo everywhere these days) was a YT post about a grift — that predates AI — which used AI and he blamed AI for the grift! Not the human, but the technology.
