I remember the most random things...

Over the years this has honestly become one of my favorite parts of my brain. I might forget trivial stuff like teethbrushing, but I have these funny bits of people I've lost that I can pretty much revisit in 4k. Probably mostly doing that when I should be doing something else, lol, but I wouldn't trade it away

As a queer person, for me at least I find the 'default' language pretty funny. I think it could just as easily be seen as acknowledgement of privilege as the other way around

Community Pruning - TwoXChromosomes (!twoxchromosomes)

Honestly pretty amped that terfy name is finally being laid to rest.

I moved to Reddit after the sale of Tumblr years back. Now, fired Reddit for similar reasons and I'm here. Gotta say in my experience so far on Lemmy feels miles less noxious to women than Reddit was in those days, (or kinda at any point since lol). And I've seen far more women and queer folk comfortably hanging out.

Course that's just me, I'm not very savvy, but for real, it was clear by the time I got here so much work had already been done to make everyone feel at home. Thank you so much

I find the """man up""" school of thought generally works for me when faced w a tough situation but 97% of the time it's presented as an obnoxious show of bravado. What are better ways to phrase this?

Maybe explain, as you're doing so well here, that your goal isn't to be invalidating. You could point out that sometimes distracting, venting, or leaning on coping mechanisms can actually become the problem. They can become a way to avoid and minimize our own feelings, abilities, and issues. Even basic actions, like taking a much-needed shower, taking a brief walk or finally making it through a whole workday can trigger massive chemical changes in our brain when we're in a crappy place.

I hope this helps. I think you're bringing up a really helpful sticking point here, and having received and misunderstood many a "man up" pep talk during depressive episodes, I gotta say it's a very cool move for you to workshop supportive language like this

I really don't know where I would start explaining this to be honest. In a nutshell, Reddit has a somewhat problematic assortment of communities for survivors of Christian fundamentalist sects and homeschooling. We place a high value on denim and worship a raccoon named Lord Daniel. That's the broad strokes of it
