TikTok bans Musk documentary account
Reply in thread
No, and it contains an AI avatar of Elon Musk that gets interviewed in his place because they (obviously) couldn’t get the dipshit himself for the doc.

‘If I switch it off, my girlfriend might think I’m cheating’: inside the rise of couples location sharing
My girlfriend and I share our locations mainly for convenience and safety. It’s nice to know that she’s 3 tram stops away from home so I can start cooking dinner for example. She’s also terrible at responding to texts and calls though lol

‘I miss old Google’: readers tell us how they search the internet in the age of AI
Even without the AI overview there’s so many AI written articles in search results that it’s hard to get through the noise. Limiting search to pre 2022 only does so much when you want information on something recent.
I don’t miss the old Google, I miss the old Internet :(

Leaked documents claim 'US wants to convince four countries to quit EU' in bid to 'Make Europe Great Again'
I don’t think Poland would ever actually leave the EU. Every poll says that poles love being in it even if the far right complains a ton. As someone who lived in Poland between 2005 and 2020 the improvements from being in the EU are so noticeable it would be suicide for the country to actually leave.

It’s also wrong. MacOS allows you to go through setup with a local account and doesn’t force you to connect to the internet either

She didn’t. You’re confusing the acting president with the woman that won the Nobel prize. They’re different people.

SpaceX sure but Tesla has been in decline for so long that I wouldn’t be surprised if by the end of the decade it’s either irrelevant or sold off / taken from Musk.

Mastodon is about to launch its take on Bluesky’s starter packs
Oh my his finally. The only fediverse platform I use is Lemmy because finding interesting stuff and communities here is so easy. Mastodon is a pain in the ass by comparison, and starter packs really helped me find some cool accounts at the beginning of Bluesky.

390TB video game archive being taken offline due to skyrocketing RAM, SSD, and hard drive prices — AI-driven supply squeeze results in closure of one of the largest online video game archives
Reply in thread
From the article:
Aside from that, RAM, SSD, and HDD prices have been steadily rising due to the AI infrastructure build-out, resulting in higher hosting expenses for Myrient as well. We’ve actually seen this with German data center giant Hetzner, which is hiking prices up to 37% starting April 1. The archiving site said it needed “necessary upgrades to the storage and caching infrastructure,” which it cannot afford due to memory chip and storage shortages.
The creator also complained about abusive users who were monetizing Myrient content. Not only did they bypass the donation messages and the site's built-in download protections, but they also added a paywall that defeated the site’s policy against paywalls.
