Venom vs. Magneto
Magneto is the manifestation of the saying, "one man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter." You could probably reasonably say:
Professor X : Magneto :: Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. : Malcom X
Professor X and the X-Men were all for mutant equality, but they always favored peaceful acceptance. Conversely, Magneto recognized that large portions of society would never accept mutants. It also bears mentioning that Magneto carried some "racist" (for lack of a better word) tendencies towards non-mutants. In his view, non-mutants are lesser beings.

'I'm supposed to be dead' says Trump after assassination attempt
Basically, a massive narcissist was just martyred by someone in his own party. The narcissism will be even further off the charts now. His already unbearable cult of personality will got so far past 11, it’s going to be so much worse.

Trump threatens BRICS with tariffs if they replace US dollar
I mean, if he slaps tariffs on everyone, he may just accidentally bring about world peace when everyone just decides to stop dealing with the US.

r/ZeroWaste mod talks about ongoing "plague of bots" spamming comments at an extremely high rate
This is something I’ve been wondering for awhile: if I were a mod on Reddit, and was being threatened by the admins to bend the knee, as it were, my response would likely be to remove any and all tools i had put in place to help me moderate, and say, “goodbye.”
I’m sure there’s something I’m just not understanding, but why isn’t this happening?

Italy needs to understand that thinking you can reason with Trump makes Europe weaker.
In fact, this works with all countries. He’s a literal baby. He doesn’t understand or want to hear your reasoning because he knows he’s right. As soon as everybody understands that, the quicker they can get to the task of isolating the US as much as possible.

Mike Johnson cornered at "intense" White House meeting
the first priority of our country is our border.
Oh is it now!? If only there was some sweetheart deal chock full of concessions from the Dems that even your Senate brethren favored that you could push through the House in your role as Speaker. Gosh, all those do-nothing Liberals, amiright!?

'Trump is for sale': Conservatives outraged over ex-president's TikTok flip-flop
How many are “outraged?” And are they so outraged as to consider not voting for him? If not, this story is meaningless.

Exactly. If two people are making competing compelling arguments, they've both earned an upvote. Using Up/Down votes as a means to siding with someone is a good way to build an echo chamber.

YSK: Flossing your teeth is only uncomfortable when your gums are unhealthy
“Take care of your teeth” is my go-to “old person’s advice to young people.” Once you realize that dentists can’t really “fix” (as in permanently fix) most problems with your teeth (that you get one set for your whole life), that 5-10 minutes a day to take care of them doesn’t seem like so much.
Seriously, once you have a cavity, there’s a pretty good chance that tooth will eventually become a crown or implant. Once a tooth cracks, it will eventually get worse and have to go. Dentistry is mostly preventative, and for the most part they can really only apply a band-aid to serious problems.

Russian banks say they've run out of yuan as Chinese firms pull away from the nation
Reply in thread
This is what frustrates me so much about people in the US arguing against supporting Ukraine. At the end of the day, while China might be willing to help Russia, the US is by far it's largest customer. Add to that China's own economy is contracting, and supporting Ukraine against Putin, along with the severe sanctions that have been in place, is the smartest most cost effective way of hopefully removing him from power. I have a co-worker who got out of Russia a little over a year ago, and he said it was pretty bad before he and his family left. Unfortunately, it's a slow process because the goal is to get the Russian people to oust him. We all know that's not going to happen at the ballot box, so all that's left is the people overthrowing their leaders. Things have to get pretty dire before a population like Russia's gets to that tipping point.
This is a marathon. The main thing is keeping Ukraine strong and able to defend itself. I'm really liking the offensives into Russian territory they've been carrying out. I just want them to remember a defensive position is easier to maintain/win than an offensive one. In other words, don't try to go to far into Russia. Way way too many great generals have made that mistake!

Trump's Project 2025 is now being searched in Google more than Taylor Swift and the NFL
I’m hoping I’ll see more stories about this in the mainstream news, along with Dems reminding voters that Republicans said for years that “Roe was settled law,” and “they’re not going to overturn Roe.” Ending their statements with, “when someone tells you who they are, believe them.”

Trump plans to throw out federal workers’ union contracts
All I have to say, and I said it on that day of the RNC, but fuck that union guy for actually thinking the GOP gave 2 shots about unions after generations of fighting like Hell to gut them. Also fuck him for not endorsing the candidate who, while not necessarily a friend of unions, certainly wouldn’t have been actively working against them.

Mastodon is Rewinding the Clock on Social Media — in a Good Way
The problem is that #10 in this article is why 99% of people won’t leave Xitter for Mastodon. Most of the people with lots of followers on X aren’t on Mastodon. It’s really that simple. Some “influencers” need to be convinced to open up Mastodon accounts and advertise exclusive content on there for their followers. Until then, we will be stuck with a handful of journalists, Flipboard, and Stephen Fry.
