Women in China are telling each other to bring their boyfriends to see 'Barbie' — and to use it as a litmus test for their thoughts on feminism and patriarchy

Out of curiosity since I haven't seen the movie but saw some reviews: is the representation of society (the way they depict it in the movie) meant to be like real life? Or is it more of a satire / exaggeration of it? Because the things that were described in the reviews about the "real world" bits definitely didn't sound like how things appear to be in most parts of Europe that I've been to (or lived in).

Disney doesn't really have any enticing new content anymore nowadays. They mostly ruined Marvel and Star Wars and their remakes are generally not worth watching because the originals are better. In some cases they even alter the original story so much that it's barely even the same story anymore. The only worthwhile stuff on there is the Pixar movies and even they are struggling a bit recently with Elemental being a flop.

I'm currently sharing a Disney+ sub with my family and I'm going to try to get them to agree to cancel our subscription. I wanted to do the same with Netflix but I sadly couldn't get them to agree to it but with the lack of content on D+ I might be able to convince them this time.

Same here, I created my first account there while simultaneously creating this one on Kbin.social. With all the issues there were with lemmy.world I've decided to use this one for a while instead to see how I like Kbin. It's been pretty nice so far, the only thing that sucks is that I haven't found a good Kbin app for Android yet.
