DoorDash now warns you that your food might get cold if you don’t tip

Is it too much to ask that I might be able to just pay for this service? Sometimes I want or need food ordered. If it costs $20 to have it delivered, and pay the delivery person fairly, sometimes that's worth the cost to me. I wish tips were an extra for "thanks for doing something above and beyond or awesome". They shouldn't need to be expected.

$1.99 convenience fee $4.25 app fee $3.99 delivery fee Oh, and don't forget to tip your driver because none of this goes to them.

^^^^ this cap needs to stop. Just give me the $15-$20 delivery fee and be done with it.

Behind the Baltimore bridge collapse is a familiar story of a corporation cutting corners

Because corporate personhood is different than person personhood?

I always find it interesting to take corporate fines, translate them to a % of gross income and then apply it to my salary to put it in perspective.

Here’s the best part, a basic 1st offense traffic ticket is usually way more expensive. (I assume a ticket would be around $250 not counting the increased insurance rates.)

You can no longer activate new Windows 11 builds with Windows 7 or 8 keys; maybe last chance to activate using Windows 7 or 8 keys, for 22H2.

There could be a bit of a caveat here. I when I purchased my laptop it had windows 10 installed. When I installed Mint, I could not reuse that key in a VM because it was “different hardware”. The license, could not be transferred under any circumstance. I had also purchased the upgrade to Pro through the windows store. That’s also lost.

I seldom run windows, even in the VM, but it still leaves one a bit bitter.

What are your tips for saving money and reducing waste?

If you have space to store stuff buy bulk in things that don’t expire.

Make your own cleaners for some things. Vinegar, dawn soap, and rubbing alcohol are the base for most.

Boardwalk laundry detergent has been a great cost saver. You have to buy 40 lbs at a time, but it works great. We typically use half the recommended amount since it’s made for larger washers.

Watch for commercial products as sometimes this is the way to go for simple items that need to be durable.

10 REASONS why Linux Mint is the desktop OS to beat in 2023

Reply in thread

Mint was my “gateway distro” to get away from windows as a daily driver. It still is my daily driver and it’s given me enough guardrails to not screw it up too badly and learn.

I’m looking to go further up stream towards Debian. I’ve looked at arch and “arch that’s not allowed to be called arch because it has a gui installer”, but I’m not ready/able/“risk-tolerant-enough” to keep that stable as my daily driver. Fedora dormant seem quite right for me.

I really like mint, it meets my needs, has treated me well.

New user about to jump into Proton

Register your own domain and get that going as your email. Then you can try all the suggestions in this thread nearly risk free.

Proton hooked me with mail, vpn, password management, and drive. That was what I needed to replace Gmail and one drive at the time.

They’ve ignored the Linux development the community consistently asked for and introduced Lumo the useless chatbot instead.

They still check a lot of the boxes if you want something privacy respecting and easy. The ceo chose to run his mouth in a detrimental way, and walked it back slightly after backlash… so there’s that.
