House Republicans Investigate Wikipedia Over Alleged Bias

It’s funny, because they clearly have the idea in their head that Wikipedia is a single organization capable of an ideological bias. When if you take a single look at some talk pages, it would become clear very quickly that Wikipedia is built on people vociferously disagreeing and bringing sources to make the information presented ever more credible and unbiased.

There are two types of users

Yeah, I’m probably addicted to cannabis. That doesn’t particularly bother me, as it doesn’t negatively impact my life. I keep it to nights and weekends, and I don’t spend more on it than I can afford. I honestly have a much harder time quitting coffee than I do cannabis. If I go on vacation, I never have a problem leaving my weed at home, but I’ll be damned if I don’t have my caffeine. And that doesn’t seem to be a particularly harmful addiction either.

Kamala Harris appears to blame ‘people not voting’ for 2024 loss to Trump as book tour gets off to rocky start

Maybe, just maybe, the Democrats will someday realize that political parties are supposed to stand for something other than “what are you gonna do, vote Republican?”

If people didn’t vote for you, it’s because you didn’t appeal to them. Don’t blame the voters for not liking the shitty options presented. Actually represent the people, not the donors and consultants, and you might get some traction.

ELI5 How does tariffs not hurt the country imposing them on it people?

A tariff is effectively just an import tax. When an importer brings the goods into the country, they have to pay the tariff to the government. But they still need to make a profit, so they raise their price to the distributor they sell to. And the distributor has to cover the increased cost, so they charge the stores more. And then the stores charge higher prices to the end consumers.

In some cases, tariffs might be used to target a specific sector or industry to protect domestic manufacturing in that area. The idea is that by raising the price of imports, you make domestic goods relatively cheaper, so consumers will prefer the domestic. But if tariffs are applied broadly, and the country doesn’t have enough domestic manufacturing to meet demand, and its economy relies heavily on imports, then tariffs just raise costs to consumers for no reason.

What strict parents actually teach

Reply in thread

Yeah, my parents made us leave our cell phones on the kitchen counter so they could read our texts every night, and they installed software on our computers that took screenshots every 5 seconds.

I wonder why I have issues with authority figures and privacy?
