is proton still a viable alternative?
Yes. If you don't agree with the CEO, keep in mind that he is not the owner, they moved to a nonprofit structure. Proton's CEO is not the first one saying stupid things, the same happened with Mozilla, Brave, and perhaps many other reputable groups.
Proton products are good, IMHO the layout is OK.
It's good, but not the only one. If you don't feel comfortable with Proton, go to Mailbox.org, Posteo, Tuta. They are smaller, with less products on their portfolio, but reputable and as good as Proton.

FYI - Graphene OS has biometrics with pin
Thanks for sharing, this is indeed a great feature and makes GOS even stronger! Just enabled and love it!
For the home screen, I keep the regular PIN, so I have to type instead of using fingertips. But for apps that requires authentication (after you are already logged in), it's really convenient use fingertips instead of the pin for convenience.

What distro do you use and why?
Fedora with GNOME.
I've been using it for over than 10 years in my main computer.
It simply works, it's nice, fresh packages, stable, GNOME is productivity champion (at least I know all the shortcuts, and how to tweak it to my daily use). I also know how to build and manipulate RPM packages, so it's pretty convenient.

If not Github, where would you host your projects?

I've been using Ecosia, it's basically Google results, but with more privacy, and they invest the revenue in tree-planting projects.

What VPN do you use when you cannot use Mullvad.
I'm a happy IVPN user. Small team, privacy enthusiasts, transparent, great products. Just a heads up, some IVPN subscription tiers offer MailX (email aliases, like SimpleLogin), ModDNS (like Contro-D or NextDNS) and Portmaster (app firewall, and SPN network, inspired on TOR). It's hard to compete!

How do you get motivated in the morning?
Coffee. I mean, high quality Specialty Coffee. Grind the beans by yourself, feel that aroma, complete the ritual by sipping the black nectar of productivity. It will be the best moment of your entire day.

If you have budget, Thinkpads can't go wrong. You can also find refurbished.
Tuxedo and Framework are also excellent choices.

What are your favourite extensions?
My favourites are:

Pros: OS doesn't spy on you, better privacy, freedom, the OS will not tell you what you have to do. Just do whatever you want to do, change whatever you want to change.
Cons: Maybe gaming support, this is what I see people complaining. I don't game myself, so can't say much here. After using Linux for 20+ years, I personally don't have any cons. The OS works perfectly fine for both professional and personal life.

I've been using Linux for more than 20+
First distro: Slackware, then Debian for many years, finally Fedora, since 2014, very happy user.
What I like in Fedora: the 6 months release provides bleeding edge experience without compromising stability.

My First Fairphone 6 from Murena
Reply in thread
Thanks for your answer, but I'm asking if you installed any traditional German banking app (like DKB, Commerzbank, etc) on e/OS/, I'm curious if the bank app will work correctly in a modified Android like e/OS/. I've heard that some banks apps don't work on "non-official" Android.

Amazing, enjoy your new /e/OS. I'm planning to buy one. Since you're from Germany, how is your banking experience? Are you using any traditional German banks (like DKB, N26, Commerzbank)?
That's my only concern, but happy to hear experience from /e/OS users :-)

Why do you use/choose Linux?
I've used Linux for over 20 years, it just works and gives me the freedom I want, so there's no reason for me to use anything else.
