Ray is basic.

Maybe it feels counter-intuitive to some that sharks were there before trees...

But I hope it is intuitive that there was water long before there was soil? Then it's just a small step to realize life in water has had a much longer time to develop.

Mosses were likely already there though

Actually Insane

Seriously though, the way everyone is now telling Trump what a great leader he is and praising his every action is very much like such a charicature of a leader of a totalitarian regime. The charicature we used to make fun of leaders like Kim.

It's ominous to see this happen with "the leader of the free world".

Not that it is true that they are just tiny boxes... But even if it were true. That's the difference between China and the US isn't it?

One provides at least a "box" for everyone.

One provides a big home with a yard with a white picket fence around it for some, but leaves others living in the streets.

Do you really prefer the last one? So many people in the US would be happy with a box at this point.

You hate influencers, but you guys still make this about the US and its influencers. "Sad there is a war, but please kill our influencers".

That's about the Americanest thing I ever read. Not everything is about you and your celebrities.

Bioindicator PSA

That's not heather.

And I don't get the meme. Is the joke that these plants don't indicate anything except that there is soil?

Some of these plants indicate nothing (dandelion and clover), not even that there is soil to begin with.

But the heather and lavender indicate (very) nutrient poor soil. The soil heather grows on is very acidic and for lavender it is basic, calcium rich soil.

The stinging nettle soil is very rich in nitrogen.

So there are some easy indicators?

Extremely Normal

"In the United States of America".

The birthplace of freedom and democracy. The beacon of light and justice in the world. So strange that it is happening over there. Who could have seen this coming?

One could expect this to happen anywhere, but in the United States of America? No way.

Schadenfreude

What does this have to do with Schadenfreude? I mean I guess we all feel some form of schadenfreude when looking at the US right now. But what does this post have to do with that?

Wonder what their cousins liked to snack on...

Interesting! But how do we know the crocs eat the fruit specifically as mineral or fiber supplement and not just for general sustenance, for the fun of death rolling a pumpkin, or "by accident"?

The sentence "it's not by accident either" indicates clearly observable behaviour. I.e.: A croc needs potassium, then eats a banana. But how did the scientists observe this?

And how do the crocs know which fruit to eat? I guess for them to eat anything with the intention of being provided with minerals or fiber they need to know their fruits?

I have so many questions. I know bears know a lot about plants and some apes are known to use specific plants (as medicine even), but this is indicative of higher intelligence so I'd be curious to hear if anyone knows about how this works in primitive reptile brains.

I share your worries. But I don't see how me or you personally not having kids is going to solve anything. We need a future generation to continue our fight against this.

While the right wingers and religious keep breeding like rabbits, I think our personal choice to not have children will just leave us childless and the world still fucked. Having children, at least there will be people in the future that share our hopes and dreams.

Don't get me wrong. Opting for children is a personal choice with no good or bad answer. But it's not so clear cut as you portray it, as I say there's no right or wrong answer to the question.

This seems like just a guess though of what seems "likely" and who "they" support. Truth is that no one knows. They may be supporting you as your argument is one that suppresses resistance and makes it seem futile, which also favours them and can be quite dangerous.

Not that I know what the truth is, just want to make clear no one knows. And they do not seem to need a justification for violence anyway.

They're just playing you (saying this from outside US) because they know you can't make sense of this, and resisting or not will both work in their favour.

How badly is global warming / climate change going?

Yes I agree on the likely outcome that the world will be "less developed". But this always makes me think that we should choose this outcome rather than wait for it. That way we'll have more control and we may limit some damage.

If we have to go "back", whatever that means, I'd rather do it voluntarily as the urge to always go "forward", whatever that means, seems to be an underlying cause of our problems.
