Trump Announces 50% Tariff on Canadian Vehicles and Steel Starting in 2027

it's not much of a "war", the US will be further economically disadvantaged for destroying historic trade and diplomatic alliances while canada will benefit enormously in the short and long term from new trade partners fleeing U.S. relations.

canada has already committed to doubling their non-US imports permanently, and has new agricultural deals in place with central and south america, so even when trump chickens out, US americans will be SOL for lumber and canadian imports and unable to offload their products and agriculture permanently. 70-80% of all U.S. lumber is actually Canadian, and that faucet has been turned off because of trump.

Finland hosts the air guitar world championships

i agree that playing music is deeply joyous, and i don't think air guitarists aren't going the extra mile by playing air guitar, they're just on a different path that they seem to really enjoy.

it brings lip-syncing drag shows to mind, they found the form of expression that works best for them, and I've heard a lot of interviews with drag performers, none of them give the impression they are holding anything back or regret not singing original songs themselves, that's not the form of expression they're interested in.

this air guitar champion explains his performance without ever relating it to music, his whole focus is the pageantry and physical expression.

it doesn't seem like they're stepping up to the line but refraining from playing music, they're basically performing a type of dance. different genre of expression than playing music.

love discussing this btw hahaha

a gap year, especially common in much of western europe, is a year in between the end of childhood education(say US high school) and the beginning of adult education(say US university) where a young adult is encouraged to find themselves before choosing their exact field of interest or life path.

It is common in many countries.

congrats! yes, I recommend against anyone pretending everyone can do everything, vague absolutes are rarely helpful.

AI hasn't had much of an impact on entry-level remote work, especially esl, it's always good to check.

For the first time in about a century, more people are emigrating from the US than immigrating to the US.

if you don't mind talking about it, what's your dream career?

there are people who travel with their pets, but as you say it can be an extra challenge, although every single pet owner i know is as attached o their pet as parents are to their child, so the challenge is immaterial to them.

i'm very practical myself, and living abroad is a phenomenal route toward financial independence. it made no sense for me to return to the states when not living there meant all of my financial goals were immediately attainable. One plane flight away, and all your living expenses become rock bottom. a couple hundred for a private apartment, utilities, wifi, groceries are pennies on the dollar. if your goal is FIRE, living abroad works well.

Here's a post about retiring as an ESL teacher after 2-8 years, depending on how much you want to work per week(40-10 hours). teaching doesn't have to be your calling, just get out from under the thumb and often mindset of 50-year retirement.

indeed is only one of an uncountable number of job sites that illustrate the breadth of attainable remote jobs immediately available. you can filter jobs by "no experience required". I usually suggest ESL to english speakers first because of the outsized demand(6000 students per teacher), more engaging work relative to other entry-level gigs, travel opportunity, and decent pay regardless of experience or qualifications.

nobody has to live abroad, travel is just a very practical way to access immediate or rapid financial independence that i want people to be aware of.
