Signal is Private. Why do people think so?
Because they were brought to court to give info for a case and they proved they didn't have any.

That's nice but only a frontend app filter. It should be platform independent and linked to the account, like blocked communities.

literally every vegan I meet online is extremely preachy.
uhh... you do realize that the non-preachy ones just won't talk about it? How would you even know they're vegan?

Defederation should only be done against instances that are full of bots or have technical issues (such as that one instance that had its time wrong for a while, causing problems.)

So where are we all supposed to go now?
I think the "Fediverse is hard to join" thing is a myth corporate are pushing. I signed up for Mastodon and it took me 1 minute (mostly because I had to open up my email to verify it); same for lemmy.

Google Pixel Fold CAN'T handle the heat! - (or anything else)
I don't need it to be super durable but the plastic screen is still a dealbreaker for me. Wonder when we'll get something better that's foldable.

Do you think rclone doesn't work on Linux or is this about Linux users not finding love in general?

Climate change has ravaged India’s rice stock. Now its export ban could deepen a global food crisis

The comparison is more apt than appears at first glance. The debates continue, but attacks by the Sea Peoples, or war, is only one of the hypothesized contributers to the collapse. Others include: a pandemic, environmental shifts caused by a volcanic eruption, and drought.

Unironically better to use Chrome than Brave. They're both spyware but at least you're not actively deluding yourself about privacy with Chrome.

Important to note that you need to install a library from inside the app's settings to enable swipe typing. Ctrl+F "enable gesture typing" on the Github page to see where to get it.

The fork even has support for swipe, autocorrect, word prediction, clipboard management, etc, and is way more lightweight than Gboard and the rest. Zero reason to use anything else at the moment.

I mean I'm already kind of doing this reading super old books but 10k isn't worth the hassle if I find myself in the mood for something else.

I'm just reading a Robert E. Howard short story (usually Conan) every week. Tower of the Elephant was really nice, as was The Valley of the Worm (the latter will offend modern sensibilities, fair warning).

Your Computer Should Say What You Tell It To Say - Google is adding code to Chrome that will send tamper-proof information about your operating system and other software, and share it with websites

No. Chromium is far, far from being free of Google's clutches. If you must use chromium-based browsers (you really shouldn't) you can try ungoogled-chromium.
