Whats your such opinion

human are omnivore, it's a biological trait not a diet. Being omnivore doesn't mean that you need to consume animal products, in the contrary, it means that you can avoid them and still strive, as opposed as carnivore.

own your choices, plain and simple. don't blame other for taking action to reduce suffering, CO2 and waste of ressources.

41% of fediverse instances have blocked threads so far!!!

yes, on Mastodon when a user block an instance, it's more like a mute than a block. Your posts will still be available to them, but you won't see their content.

The only solution if you want to protect your content from being shared on an instance is to block it at the instance level AND that the instance use Authorised Fetch.

Not all instances have this feature on.

I totally understand your point of view and think that your perception is valid. If you try to analyse why you find them preachy and judgemental it could be interesting.

For example would find them so annoying if you agree with them? Is it the discourse that annoys you or the person? Is it your belief system being challenged that annoys you or the facts that are being stated?

It's always intersting to understand why we feel that way when we are challenged, and veganism is one of a few topic that can create what we called in psychology reactance, an interesting topic.

Veganism is really different than religion tho, cause it is totally backed by science (regarding food production, waste issue, C02 and sentientism) and a logic construct.

Spam and porn are flooding kbin already

I think that this button defederate your content, not the content from other instances.

if you want to block another instance, you can click on its domain name (between bracket) and block it. like you'll block usual magazine

you can also type this in your url to access a domain : https://kbin.social/d/name of the domain like kbin.social or lemmy.whatever

then you can check the magazines and domains you blocked in your profile's settings.

but it's still a bit buggy and need some work to work correctly.

EDIT: this doesn't block the instance, but only the domain. new tool coming soon, confirmed by the main dev:

domain blocking existed long before federation. It serves as a way to block sources like youtube.com, spotify.com. Blocking instances will be a separate option in the user profile soon. I will submit a pull request.

Moderate by lottery?

I think that first, things need to settle down. We don't have yet moderating tools. And the website is still under construction.

A lottery is not a great idea because just picking up people randomly won't work, you need to know of the technical aspect of things work. And also some people may join with not good intent at all. So it could have catastrophic results.

I guess it will be pretty simple to come up with mod guiding rules, and if anyone has an issue with moderation you can simply contact the instance admin and settle things.

but as for right now we are still in the early stage of this website, so patience.

edit: just though about the comparison with jury duty, I guess you are talking about the USA in this example. a lot of countries doesn't have a jury of peer, and they are good reason for that.

We Need Downvotes on Lemmy.one

unfortunately downvote are not only used on off-topic posts. it could also be about disagreement, not about the quality of the post.

so it's not always a good indicator of the value of the post and can be use in a way to shut off divergent opinions, encourage a single point of view. not always a good tool.

[Video] Is Veganism Really the Answer?

If you can stop consuming animal products you should. It’s part of all the other solutions like renovations of our building and change our habit about transportation, etc

Continuing to consume animal products with the science we have today is a choice anyone can do but we know the consequences. It’s not up to debate anymore even if it’s not popular.

We can’t deny it anymore. Period.
