Fairphone Is Finally Selling Its Repairable Phone in the US
Fairphones seem okay from a hardware POV but the software is a bit lacking in terms of security and support.

This comes from the people who run GrapheneOS e.g. https://discuss.grapheneos.org/d/24134-devices-lacking-standard-privacysecurity-patches-and-protections-arent-private. Maybe they're opinionated for some reason that extends beyond the hardware/software.

Fuck Microsoft
Fuck every company that does this. I don't like YouTube shorts. Can I disable YouTube shorts? No. Instead I can choose to "Show less often" which means absolutely nothing since they reappear in no time. Dark patterns are called that for a reason.

*Permanently Deleted*
The answer for this guy and other people stretched by supporting Linux is to say it's flatpak or nothing. Stop trying to build for each dist because it's not sustainable. If someone on a dist wants to maintain a package then let them take the heat if it is broken.

UK households could face VPN 'ban' after use skyrockets following Online Safety Bill
It would have been smarter for the UK to mandate that every ISP must provide a family filter for free as part of their service. Something that is optional and can be turned on or off by the account holder but allows parents to set filters (and curfews) if they want. They could even require that ISPs require new signups to affirm if they want it on or off by default so people with families are more likely to start with it enabled.

Tesla’s Cybertruck Is a Bust
I think Musk drew this thing on the back of an envelope and forced it through to production against the protests and objections of everybody in Tesla. It sucks as a truck, it sucks as an EV, it costs way too much money, it's so dangerous that it is banned in most of the world, it's impractical, costly to repair, uninsurable and it falls to bits. It's no wonder the thing failed.

Trump's Nobel Prize desperation now a 'running joke' among diplomats
I'm laughing that the committee awarded the prize to a Venezuelan. Trump is going to be raging all day - all caps screeching about how he deserved to win, how Maria Machado is a loser, about how many conflicts he resolved etc. His government is going to be striking out against Venezuela (despite the winner being an opponent of the regime), Norway and the Nobel Prize organization. Fox will be on a rage fest too and all his proxies too. I guarantee that we'll see esteemed members of Nobel getting detained at US borders, being deported etc because Trump is a sore loser little bitch.

How bout that
If that is true then Musk & Twitter 100% knew about it before disclosing location to other users.

Looksmaxxing is just a new name for body dysmorphia. The same shit that makes people puke their guts out after eating, or getting plastic surgery done over and over until they look like freaks.

'Has hell frozen over?': Las Vegas tourism is in trouble
Not surprised given how Vegas has evolved in the last 10-15 years. Most of the casinos are run by MGM or Caesars so there is zero incentive to compete any more. It's all expensive - the rooms, the meals, the shows. They slap bullshit like "resort fees" on everything. The comps / drinks are minimal. The table limits are ridiculous. Most of the public attractions are shut down or dialed back. The public transport is abysmal. Oh and Donald Trump has basically told the world that tourists aren't welcome any more. I'm surprised anybody bothers going there any more quite frankly.

RFK Jr. ousts entire CDC vaccine advisory committee
RFK jr reminds me of Mother Theresa - steadfastly certain of his rightness and while perpetrating the most terrible suffering through his actions. He is the worst kind of evil - stubborn and blind to the demonstrable suffering and harm he is causing.

36-year-old left the U.S. for China—now pays $1,000 rent and $100 for groceries for family of 4: It's my 'version of the American Dream’
I'm sure China, Thailand or somewhere like that is great to go to for a while if you're being paid a salary meant for the US or Europe. I doubt the people who have always lived there see the value at all and have all sorts of bullshit that a visitor probably doesn't even see. Especially for China that imposes all kinds of social controls that highly restrict free expression, free movement, etc.

Microsoft suddenly bans LibreOffice developer's email account, blocks appeal
What isn't made clear is if this had anything to do with him being a LibreOffice developer. Or just the usual Kafkaesque bullshit that happens when someone's account gets flagged for "suspicious activity" or whatever and they cannot get a real human being to help or reverse the problem.

New EU law requires devices to be repairable - Every phone, television or washing machine you buy in Europe must be easier to repair starting tomorrow. That’s when the European Right to Repair Act tak
Unfortunately there are some exemptions. Flexible / folding displays are not covered. Fitness trackers and watches are not covered.
There is also a battery regulation coming in next year to require phone batteries to be replaceable with no tools but that has loop holes too - long life batteries aren't covered, IP67 rated phones aren't covered. So you can bet your boots those two reasons will be what makers use to bullshit their way out of it.

Mercedes CEO calls for ‘reality check’, slamming EU combustion engine ban
No, Europe's car market won't "collapse". The companies which have spent the last 10-15 years planning & investing, and the next 10 years building & rolling out will make the transition and those that haven't will go to the wall.
In fairness to Mercedes they are making some effort. They do offer electric versions for most of their range but they also suck compared to the competition by price & performance. Probably because they're compromised by sharing a platform with ICE vehicles. This isn't the fault of the technology, it's the fault of Mercedes for drawing conclusions from their own bad decisions.
It is also Mercedes fault that they're not knuckling down and solving this issue. Mercedes had better pull its finger out. Or it could whine, spread FUD, or waste money on tangents like "synthetic" fuels. If it chooses the latter, it WILL go bust and have to be bailed out by a competitor.
