Learning physics in 2026

I've recently acquired interest for Physics once again in my life, and I'd like to get back as a hobby thing at least. It's about 8 years since I took any class lately, which ultimately makes me a bare-bones beginner.

So, I wanted to ask: is there any good course or book you could recommend on it? I'd appreciate some suggestions, I am reading the "University Physic" by Young and Freedman, and I was wondering if there is any other additional source I could use.

PoV allegro vs temu

Just had an extremely revalating experience.

I've got my old Koss Porta Pro with broken cable, and I've been willing to replace it for some time. I had a though: huh, if everyone buys things on Temu, let's look for it there. I spent literally hour trying to search for it, using all combinations of search terms and languages I know — all I got was "ready cables, just plug it in". It was exactly what I wanted to avoid.

Then I head to allegro. One search term, and I got exactly what I was looking for. And mostly for the same price!

After thinking about it for a bit, and looking at differences, I can spot one thing: usually, products that are coming from Europe, are focused on getting your work done. No, or very limited attempt to hijack your attention to make you buy some shit you don't want to buy (at least in my experience). At the same time most popular products from other places are trying to give you more: they can work as a good source for inspiration for things you might want, but not right now.

I guess this is generally a superpower of European products: you can get your work done. Though, they are not as successful, simply because "getting work done" and "selling more stuff" are quite opposite directions :)

[Personal win] Just cancelled Amazon Prime subscription

Yesterday, I've cancelled the Amazon Prime subscription, and I feel really good about it (even though the subscription is really low in Poland, I just didn't want to have it).

I've replaced it with few other things:

  • allegro smart subscription (to save on deliveries from Polish local online marketplace allegro.pl)
  • an occasional subscription just for one month when I want to watch some specific show (or even find and purchase DVDs for things I like to rewatch often)
  • smaller online/offline relatil shops whenever applicable

For anything else I've never been using Amazon services, so it is kind of no-brainer for me ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Handling overwhelming emotions?

Hey everyone here 👋

I've been wondering: how do you handle cases, when you get overwhelmed with emotions to the state, that you simply cannot focus on anything but that emotion? I hate that feeling, because it really makes me to feel sick with just being emotional.

My take is that I usually just break from a situation, take an hour or two, and try to stim myself with something else: a game, a movie, something like that. Though, sometimes I don't have a time space to do it: I need to be gathered and focused here and now, with no space for wiggling.

Any alternatives for bandcamp.com?

Hello there 👋

I am following the path of decreasing dependency on US products myself, and I was wondering if there is any real alternative for bandcamp? Meaning, the one that would be a proper marketplace for niche music creators, that would allow DRM-free downloads and streaming at the same time.

Bottom line: I do want to pay for music I like to support musicians, though I want to do it in a way that would allow me to listen to their work in a way I like the most.
