If you could have one small thing as a superpower. What would it be and why?
For people who are interested in the same things I am to glow faintly, the more similar interest, the more they glow.

Are there really so few car enthusiasts on this site? This sub seems to have such little traffic. What gives?

Fuckcars communities are more of a "we hate the societal effects of car dependency" and less of a "we hate cars everywhere".

I think the government shouldn't pay for roads... they should pay for much more efficient forms of transportation like trains, buses, and bicycle infrastructure.

I'd guess it'd be the opposite for some people who get tired of having to be constantly available.

2: This is genuinely a curse; You will remember every little thing that happens to you and it will haunt you forevermore.
Wouldn't perfect memory recall just let you recall memories, not necessarily be forced to recall them? Whether or not you chose to do it or it haunts you seems more like a matter of mental health...

Lemmy.ml has now blocked threads.net / Meta
Reply in thread
I'd argue that we need to be blocking them now, and then perhaps consider unblocking if we grow large enough.
Not blocking early is what XMPP did and it was basically destroyed by google's disproportionate network effect: https://ploum.net/2023-06-23-how-to-kill-decentralised-networks.html
I can see something very similar happening to lemmy, where instead of letting communities grow naturally on separate instances into hardened, well moderated, popular communities, facebook's version of "lemmy communities" will take over the All page for everyone, all the time, with facebook-controlled content, simply because their userbase is so large that no other lemmy community could compete with the upvote counts. That's just one way network effects could screw us over, who knows how many different ways facebook could extend and extinguish the decentralized nature of lemmy like google did to XMPP...

Can probably fake votes anyway by faking usernames right? Harder, but still doable 🤔

I don't think government funded roads typically improve traffic either lol, only public transit and better city design is gonna do that.

I say let the private companies try to make their money, the cost of driving should reflect its true cost to society to push people towards more sustainable options. And once there are less people on the road, existing tolls will have no choice but to set pricing competatively or die (b.c. traffic wouldn't be a concern anymore)
Maybe I'm a bit extreme in my position, but I really hate cars for so many reasons...
