TurboTax Parent Company’s Latest Argument Against Free Tax Filing: It Will Harm Black Taxpayers

Man, I hope I live to see the day that these greedy bastards lose a huge chunk of their business to free filing via the IRS. They've been fighting to keep tax paying citizens from getting what they want from their government for years. It's gross.

I want to see this free filing happen both for the good it'll do and because I want to see Intuit's stock plummet. Fuck Intuit.

"It'S gOiNg tO HuRt bLaCk pEoPle" fuck off you dirty liars.

Neighbors say a Chicago man charged with killing an 8-year-old girl was upset over noise

What do you do? As a parent what do you fucking do? How do you protect your kids from this?? What are we supposed to do? Tell them not to leave the house??

I'm in fucking tears, both for this little girl and her family and friends, and because I literally do not know how to protect my daughter from this.

Stand over outdoor playtime with a gun? Trauma Refuse to let kids play outside anymore? Trauma

My kid has already been shooting adjacent once in her life, and that list of kids grows and grows every year. Kids shot, kids siblings shot, kids friends shot, kids on lockdown because there's a shooting in the school, near the school, shootings in Walmarts, now they can't play in their front yards or ring the wrong doorbell by mistake.

The fuck, you guys? Thanks for listening so I could get that out of my system before my kid sees my face.

I don't get it?

The OP was expressing how awkward sex would be with him being majorly attracted to boobs while the trans guy hates their boobs.

I don't think he literally meant he'd SAY THAT, especially on purpose.

Mostly I think he was saying it wouldn't be the best idea for him to date a trans man cuz he's not into dudes. He was just trying to be funny and paint a picture of awkwardness to explain why.

That's my reading of it, anyway.

That's the difference between me and your god.

I bet that sounded cooler in your head.

Some people read what they wrote before they post it, you know, to make sure it makes sense and whatnot. But not you, you know a cool statement when you think it! No need to worry about little things like no one asking a god they don't believe in to do jack. I mean, that's kind of the whole point, that god won't do anything to stop a rape. So what's the point in asking?

Relaxing

This was literally my husband's objection to getting medicated 😂 It helped his anxiety, then he didn't have the anxiety to get stuff done, so he thought he should just not be medicated cuz he was terrified he wouldn't have the ability anymore without the anxiety.

Lucky for him I went through the same thing with my meds, but my answer was, "Use the medication to build good habits." Which is the great wisdom I passed on to him (which I probably picked up from lurking ADHD spaces before my (and his) diagnosis).

Women protest Iowa abortion law inside Senate: 'We're not your breeders'

The "mental illness" is that pregnancy is dangerous. Quite literally life threatening. Quite literally can do permanent damage to everything from your teeth to your heart, to giving you diabetes. Children are entire people, they are not pets that you casually collect. They are people who should be brought into our world with care, with desire, with love, with planning. This country has horrible access to medical care, shits expensive AF, who's paying for that? All of those things should be taken on willingly. Not via failed birth control in a country that refuses to educate our young people on safe sex.

The "mental illness" is that no one, not a born child, not a fetus, has the right to my body parts without my on-going consent. As soon as I withdraw my consent it is over. Whether that's a life saving blood draw for my sick, already born child or continuing to incubate a fetus. I have the right to withdraw my consent to the use of my body. A fetus does not have more rights to my body than I do. It's mine.

If wanting to have the right to control what happens to my personal body is "mental illness" then I happily claim it. You're free to give up your body for someone else if you'd like. But you cannot have mine without my on-going consent.

I'm aware that I'm feeding the troll, and I'm not interested in your answer. My reply isn't for you. It's for anyone still on the fence about this issue. To me it's quite simple: No one has the right to my body but me. Even if that will kill the other person. That's settled law for every other circumstance besides pregnant women, who apparently lose their rights to their own body if a fetus attaches.

Close to 100,000 Voter Registrations Were Challenged in Georgia — Almost All by Just Six Right-Wing Activists

ProPublica was able to determine that a vast majority of the challenges since SB 202 became law — about 89,000 of 100,000 — were submitted by just six right-wing activists...

Imagine having that much time on your hands... And I get that voting integrity is important, and mayyybe these 6 people actually believe they're protecting that, but with these numbers its gotta just be fishing and targeting people based on demographics, not evidence.

A spreadsheet attached to the email identified 13 people allegedly registered to vote at P.O. boxes in Forsyth County... Georgians are supposed to register at residential addresses, except in special circumstances. “Please consider this my request that a hearing be held to determine these voters’ eligibility to vote,” wrote the challenger...

For instance, it specifically says, "except in special circumstances", how does this dude know these 13 people didn't have special circumstances??

I know voter registration fuckery is the point, but how did they not provide rules regarding what constitutes evidence?? ... Well I guess I answered my own question at the beginning, but it's so frustrating.

Johnson & Johnson sues Biden administration over Medicare drug price negotiations

That's an excellent argument for why we should have a nationally owned pharmaceutical option. The US government funds a bunch of the research anyway, we should just own production lines as well. Cut out the middle men.

We should set it up as USPS-like competition for the pharmaceutical industry. Then they can change what ever the fuck they want without literally killing people, cuz there will be a publicly owned backup.

When a coworker asks you who you spoke to and you have no idea what their name is.

"Oh hey, remember (name)? They worked here like 6 months ago."

No. No I do not remember that person. I probably didn't learn their name when they were here, let alone retain that information 6 months later.

Now I just lie, cuz people do NOT like the implication that you'll definitely forget their name in 6 months, too 😂 "Oh, yeah! That guy! How's he doing these days?" While I desperately try to conjure a mental picture as they talk about That Guy. Usually the conversation ends with me still not having a clue.

I blame a lot on brain farts when the name I can't come up with is someone who DOES still work here, "Fuck, why am I not coming up with this name that I 100% do, in fact, know??"

Really they should have been clued in to my horrible memory when I needed the phone number for our other store, that I call multiple times a DAY, to be written down near the phone because I can't reliably remember it when I need it.

Mitch McConnell freezes at press conference in what appears to be a mini-stroke.

Wishing Mitch many more strokes in the future aside...

God I'm sick of these frail old people who only have half their brain functionality, who are so incredibly out of touch with the average American due to decades and decades of being a high ranking politician, who won't live long enough to even see what they've done to the world, let alone have to experience the suffering they've caused, still running this damned country instead of stepping aside for a younger generation.

And yes, I know, young conservatives aren't any better. But they're also less entrenched, they still have time to change their minds on things, they WILL live to see the destruction conservative policies will bring. It's not much but it's better than 1000yr old, dementia brained, stroke having puppets. Run by their staff, and still barely functioning. Mitch could have been the bestest politician ever and I'd still be here saying he's reached the point where he needs to retire to his rocking chair.

Again, wishing him every well deserved stroke he gets.

Texas power use hits record high as heatwave lingers

Reply in thread

Texans are worried because of the previous track record: The winter storm that froze people to death because the supply couldn't keep up with demand. Our grid was incredibly close to a whole shit down, which would have killed even more people. All of which happened because the people in charge of such things didn't prepare for a winter storm like that despite being warned that it was necessary like a decade ago.

And heat is no joke. So yeah, we worry. We have kids, elderly family and friends, pets, and healthy adults are also not immune. When demand skyrockets we get worried because people have already died and we don't want to see that happen again. We're also very aware of how often we're told things are "fixed" when nothing has actually been done. So we cross our fingers, and we sweat, and we hope the grid doesn't shut down and kill us. Sorry our worrying and upvoting of the topic bothers you.

You thought that was my first instinct? I felt like my first instinct was clearly to keep my kid home forever.

It was a rhetorical question, meant to highlight the insanity of the situation and the lack of options parents face just trying to let their kids be kids in safety. Bringing a gun to playtime would clearly be absurd, as would keeping my daughter inside, but you didn't feel the need to call out Americans for constantly wanting to lock up their daughters. For that one you understood irony.

My country is a fucking mess, I'm clearly already upset about it. We could even have agreed about it! But you had to read what I wrote in the weirdest, American hating way possible.

Allyship doesn't come with conditions

To add on to your comment, if we want other groups to work with us they need to feel comfortable doing so. I wouldn't blame any man who didn't want to protest side by side with women who say they hate all men, for instance. I wouldn't blame men for supporting in other ways and staying home from the protest.

So if we want other groups to want to be next to us, we have the obligation to make them feel welcome and wanted. Imo. Anything less is rather unfair and unwise.
