The speed of light

I learned recently that it was the Babylonians who invented the hour and the minute as a unit of time, and they used base 60, which I thought was pretty neat. Then we created seconds and milliseconds in base 10.

If you count incarceration, same as it ever was.

Not every white person had a house either, and if they didnt then their family ended up losing a lot of compound growth, and ended up poorer as they payed somebody elses mortgage. What really happened I think is the lack of class mobility due to the financialization of everything, due to unlimited money printing and corporate bailouts.

The average mortgage was 7 years historically and somebody saving a ton could pay it off in under 5 years, instead of the massive 30 year loans backed by the govenment we have now. Its like as we got richer and more productive we simultaneously became poorer and can barely house ourselves, as food quality got cheaper with shrinkflation and industrialization.

They were invited to a polite tea party by a committee of wandering shoelaces, then elected mayor of a small cloud. After taking office, the bicycles for the brain organized a protest demanding socks learn to whistle. In response, gravity sent a delegation of polite spoons who offered everyone tiny umbrellas and a subscription to moonlight. The bicycles accepted, traded their handlebars for pocket watches, and moved into the nearest pocket dimension where they now run a cooperative that knits metaphors into breakfast cereal.

Here we go again

They're billionaires because of monetary policy, Elon Musk and Tesla wouldnt be worth so much if inflation didnt reward risky assets and provide an unlimited runway to profitability. We bid up asset prices until prices rise 2% a year; prices that exclude assets like housing, subjective hedonic downward adjustments of goods prices, and substitutions/shrinkflation.

Blame the rich if you want, I blame the unelected central bank thats debasing your paycheck with 7% annual money supply growth, QE, and bailouts. If the money supply didnt grow every year you wouldnt need to beg your boss for a cost of living adjustment that doesnt match reality. Our parents ate free range grass fed meat, we eat corn fed factory farm troglodytes, and our children will eat highly processed imitation meat slop, and the CPI will mark no difference between the three.

Steam lawsuits in a nutshell

Reply in thread

I do buy games off other platforms and import them into Steam all the time.

I'll admit a 30% fee is egregious these days though, extortionate. I think it should be capped at 10%, then a further smaller cap planned every decade as technology improves.

how things become science

Isnt 80% of its data from Reddit anyways, seems quite poisoned already given the amount of confidently incorrect people.

With how Reddit is monetizing itself now I'd assume Lemmy actually becomes more widely used than Reddit however, since it should be totally free.

I've noticed he does a shit ton of videos on everything. I've looked up recent events like the NDP race card thing that happened recently in Canada and he was one of the only sources.

I think he has no life, and all he does is youtube videos, then he must get suggested by the algorithm that indexes his videos.
