Peertube instance willing to host scientific video data?

cross-posted from: https://slrpnk.net/post/30334032

Hi @ll, a friend of mine is a scientist and has written many papers. Each of these papers has a lot of underlying video data (which show each experiment in detail). For example, one paper is easily 200 GB of video data. Now, my friend is looking for a free public archive to make this data publicly available, also for archiving purposes. The best recommendations he has received was to upload everything to Youtube, but I said - don't. I would like to recommend him a PeerTube instance for that but I have no clue which instance would agree to that much video data for archiving purposes. Might you have an idea? Peace out, T

Southern Germany hit by catastrophic flooding

Germany is feeling one of the first consequences of climate change - regular catastrophic floodings. One of the last floodings was the one in Ahrtal - here's a report about that one: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2022/jul/13/floods-then-and-now-photographs-germany-ahr-valley-flooding-disaster-july-2021

Hopefully events like these make more people think twice about which party to vote for!

Germany just now approved new laws that make setting up solar on your balcony super easy

Just 10 years ago, landlords could ban you from putting solar cells on your balcony because it makes their building look "messy". Now Germany is really pushing forward to let everybody put solar modules on their balcony with these new laws. How is legalization of balcony solar cells in your country? Is setting up solar modules on your balcony easy or difficult law-wise?

German renewable energy: lack of network expansion

Although Germany has massively invested into green energy, the issue is that the electric network has not been sufficiently expanded. This means that solar and wind energy has to be turned off to not overload the network. However, the owners of solar/wind energy still get paid. This means that in Germany, the price of energy will only make up ~50% of the bill. The other 50% are payments for unused energy (to not overload the network) and costs for expanding the electric network (because some regions such as Bavaria refuse to have wind turbines or solar panels "because they look ugly", but still need electric). Lesson: When implementing renewable energy in the rest of the world, we have to keep in mind that we have to massively invest into the electric network as well or it won't work.
