I'd go with pathological liar given how he alleged that the Apollo developer threatened Reddit - allegations which the Apollo developer proved false by releasing the audio of the phone call - and then Spez doubled down on the allegations while saying the developer shouldn't have released the audio. Basically, "I'm going to defame you and you providing proof of me lying about you isn't allowed."

R/Conservative does moderate. They ban anyone who even whispers anything slightly against their political views. Even if it's quoting Trump himself.

For the "crime" of not being a far right Republican and for the "crime" of Trump having been impeached twice. Those are the only "crimes" that these extremists care about. They also don't care that, even if they convince 50%+1 Representatives to vote to impeach, this will die in the Senate. They'll impeach Biden three times just so Trump isn't the most impeached President and they'll claim that their purely political impeachments somehow prove that the impeachments of Trump were purely political as well

Trump keeps claiming that he's being treated differently and he's right, but not in the way he means it. He's not being persecuted. He's being treated with exceptionally soft kid gloves.

He was given multiple chances to return the stuff he took. He was asked politely before a subpoena was issued. He was given time between the subpoena and the raid to turn everything over. After the raid, he wasn't immediately arrested and tossed behind bars. They even allowed him to come in and skip some procedures like being handcuffed and getting his mugshot taken.

He's been given way more considerations than anyone else who committed even remotely the number of infractions that he committed would get.

If Trump wants to not get treated differently, I'm all for it. Arrest him and toss him in jail while he waits for his trial. As a bonus, suddenly his usual tactic of delay, delay, delay won't be as attractive.

So his defense is to just say "not guilty - I didn't do anything wrong"? I mean, that's a perfectly valid plea to start with (as opposed to "guilty - I totally did that stuff"), but it's not a legal defense. If all his lawyers can muster during the trial is "our client says that he didn't do this and it's all a witch hunt" then he'll be going to prison for a long time.

I think he's calling out the fact that the justification for the API pricing changes was partially "we've got to stop AI training bots from scraping Reddit." However, the pricing changes were actually made to hit third party developers hard and not hit the AI modelers that hard.

In one of the subreddits, someone mentioned an effort to make a "Reddit API->Lemmy API bridge." Basically, you'd load this code and point your Reddit API calls to Lemmy instead. Then this bridge would translate your Reddit code to Lemmy. This could allow for apps like RIF, Boost, Apollo, etc to quickly turn their Reddit apps into Lemmy apps.

I hope this pans out. Jerboa isn't bad, but having many third party apps to choose from would be great. (As a Boost user, I'd love to load Boost and browse Lemmy instead of Reddit.)

He should totally represent himself. You know the old saying "The man who represents himself is a bigly brained genius and definitely doesn't have a fool for a client!"

Given that Trump will never accept responsibility and given the horrible charges, he'd likely get closer to 20 years.

Even that would be a death sentence for him. To go from being used to luxury for 77 years to federal prison (even minimum security) would be a massive shock. And given his poor diet, I don't he'd live to be released when he's 97.

Of course, the other way Trump differs from any normal person who committed these offenses is that the normal person would be awaiting their trial from behind bars instead of posting on social media and holding rallies.

The "strongest" argument they have is "why not Biden" and that one is actually paper thin for two reasons.

First of all, Biden cooperated and turned over the documents he found.

Secondly, if it does turn out that Biden took documents and hid them then he should certainly be prosecuted for this.

So even at most "why not Biden" isn't a defense for Trump.

People on Reddit complain about the mods enough as it is. (And I include myself in that. I've had some less than stellar mod encounters in the past.) However, if Reddit were to force out existing mods and replace them with mods willing to toe the company line (and possibly ban people for mentioning the blackout, complaining about Reddit, or mentioning alternatives), it would just result in more user dissatisfaction.

Reddit won't go out overnight. There are too many people who post there. However, this could turn into a snowball effect. Rebelling mods are replaced by bootlickers. Dissent is crushed in order to make it seem like everything is hunky dory before the IPO. Power users flee to alternatives like Lemmy. Slowly, normal users hear that some of their favorite content is on this new service and sign up. Reddit usage drops little by little until it's limping around as a shell of its former self.

I'll argue with Barr saying that past allegations were just "political enemies on a witch hunt," but he's right about these allegations being extremely serious. Just one of these charges could put Trump in federal prison for 20 years. For a nearly 77 year old man used to luxury, this might as well be a life sentence. If Trump enters a federal penitentiary, I don't think he'll be exiting alive. (Assuming no Republican president pardons him.)

Back in 2016, I got to taste a new flavor from Ben & Jerry's called "Feel the Bern" which showed their support for Bernie Sanders in the Democratic primary. Anyone who gets surprised that Ben & Jerry's is political hasn't been paying attention.

Then again, some people became shocked that Rage Against The Machine was political leading to a commenter asking "what machine did you think they were raging against?"

That's the reality with my parents. They only watch FOX News. My father had claimed to have tried watching CNN (years ago before they started veering rightwards). He said he couldn't watch their news because "they got it wrong."

Why did my father think CNN got the stories wrong? Because FOX News reported A and therefore my father assumed A was true. When CNN reported B, then my father didn't question if FOX was wrong. Instead, he just assumed that FOX was right and CNN was wrong. Since CNN was wrong about the news, my father didn't see any reason to watch them and so he stayed with FOX. People get locked in and that becomes their only source of truth.

I try to get my news from a variety of sources. This way, no one news source could mislead me. If one source reports A, but 5 others report B, then chances are the truth is closer to B. (All other things being equal like source reliability.) Of course, my father claims that I'm brainwashed by listening to many different sources instead of just FOX News. Likely because that is what FOX told him is happening with me.

I feel like calling Trump a Mickey Mouse operation is insulting to Disney. Especially considering Disney's famous legal might. There is no way Mickey would be caught the day before a huge trial without at least half a dozen lawyers prepped and ready to go.

Republicans seem to want to turn back the clock to the 1950's and in one aspect I agree with them. The top tax rate back then was 90%. That should be returned for anyone making over $10 million.

Unlike Republicans, though, I think people should be free to be who they are - whether they're LGBTQ or straight/cisgender, black or white, Christian or Jewish or atheist, or any other group I didn't list. (I didn't list all groups only because I don't want this comment to be novel length.) Basically, as long as your actions affect only yourself and consenting adults, I'm fine with them.

I'm also fine with parents having some control over what their kids do. I'm a parent myself and know that as a parent you need to make judgement calls as to what's best for your child. I wouldn't want someone else questioning my parenting based on their beliefs. However, there are limits. If your child is LGBTQ and you try to force them to be straight/cisgender, you aren't acting in your child's best interests. If your 10 year old child is raped and their life is in danger, but you refuse to allow them to have an abortion because your religion doesn't allow it, then you're harming your child.

Also, a person's "parental rights" shouldn't mean that they get to decide that certain books are banned from everyone reading them. My son actually just finished reading a book because it had been banned and we laughed over how innocuous the "ban triggering passage" was compared to some stuff in the Bible.

Basically, I think I'd call myself a Pragmatic Progressive. I advocate for progressive causes, but I also realize that society can often be slower to adapt than we like. While we would love to be able to pass X and have it be widely adopted immediately, there's often a series of slow moving battles to get X passed and another slow march to get wide acceptance. We can't simply throw in the political towel at the first setback. Neither can we pass up 10% of our goal being within our grasp because we're holding out for 100%. We need to get whatever advancements we can while continually pushing for more.

If using glyph magic does drain King, then it likely wouldn't be as big of an issue when he gets bigger. His magic reservoir would likely increase to such a huge amount that Luz could activate dozens of glyphs without a single yawn from King.
