how can doctors be confident in saying "we got all of the cancer"?
That's what TV says. In reality, people get tested for years after it's in remission. https://xkcd.com/931/

I just found out that the people onboard the Titan submarine are dead. Is OceanGate in trouble?
Not only is the CEO dead, I think that people are going to be a lot more hesitant going on anything the company makes from now on. That's not even mentioning the possibility of them being sued.

If only 3.5mm jacks werent disappearing
This is why I only buy phones that still have the headphone jack (even if they are an endangered species)

Why do some people have a extreme hate for Furries?
It's cringe culture, the same reason people make fun of weebs or anyone else who goes outside of the "norm". There's also the issue that some people think that it's too childish or too sexual (or both at once, somehow)

PSA: Upvote is not an upvote like you are used to (like Reddit) - "Boost" is the Reddit Upvote
I do wish there was a bit more privacy involved with boosting though, as of right now anyone can see what I boost.

What Reddit Got Wrong

I do wish it had a different name than fediverse though, that name reminds me too much of Metaverse.

[Megathread] New Splatfest Announced! Which flavor of ice cream is best?
I'm having a hard time deciding since my favorite flavor of ice cream is cookie dough, obviously mint chip is really similar but I dislike the combination of mint and chocolate. So I'm torn between vanilla and mint chip.

I'm seeing a lot of chat about the migration of "reddit brand" concepts like AMA and IAmA. We should probably come up with alternatives? Who's got some suggestions?
I've seen AMA threads on 4chan, I don't think it's something reddit-exclusive anymore. It's just a simple acronym for "Ask Me Anything" for online interviews.

Since we are seeing a lot more porn post I think it's clear Kbin is here to stay.

IAmA mods no longer willing to work for reddit for free
Reddit has killed its golden goose. I don't see Reddit recovering from this, certainly not without reverting the API changes.

Instagram's Threads: 'Almost every influencer will be hopping on it'
Threads won't take off as a Twitter replacement, it doesn't allow any NSFW. A lot of the people I know only use Twitter because it allows NSFW art to be posted.

You just won One Billion Dollars, what are you buying?
I would try to found my own payment processor/credit card company that would be more NSFW-friendly. Apparently all the payment processors hate porn/nsfw which is why sites like to try to ban it so much. I want NSFW content creators to have a home too.

We should call the fediverse Webrings 2.0

What are some missing features that you'd consider crucial to the success of kbin?

Something similar to the multireddit function that reddit has where you can use a + sign in the URL to consolidate multiple subreddits in one page? I don't know how easy this would be but if you could do that across multiple instances you could have [email protected][email protected] (etc) and view all the different questions at once.

1% rule: 1% of users actively create new content, while the other 99% only lurk.
Mostly lurker, I sometimes comment but social anxiety is a thing even on the internet for me.

What Creamer do you prefer? Anyone sitting on a gem?
I personally really like Lucerne Irish Cream. Irish cream liqueur is delicious and all but I don't need to be getting drunk at work lmao. This way I get the flavor without the alcohol.

How would you explain to a new user how Lemmy works?
It's like if you could use one account/website to browse and post on another like a proxy (assuming both instances are federated with each other). I am posting from kbin.social here and can post without being on lemmy.ml since the websites are connected.

question for admins, mods and users: do you promise to be better than reddit?
I will try to be more active on here once a functional Android app comes out. I will try to be more active on desktop but when I was on Reddit I usually used the Reddit is Fun app.
