It's an artist's impression. We almost certainly got no idea what its continents look like at that distance.

Sometimes my friends laugh at me for how little I know about pop culture. I laugh back though. I wouldn't say I'm proud of it but it's just funny.

Am I stupid? I don't see a title/label on this chart and I don't really understand what it means. Is it most popular car? I didn't think pickup trucks would be more popular than sedans.

the dogfighting scene in vrchat is huge. there are a bunch of aviation clubs with tournaments and competitions, spread out across a bunch of different worlds. my personal favorite dogfighting world is probably Sacchan's Test Pilots.

Not just shit controlled by a CEO, literally anything for-profit. For-profit software does not care about your experience. It cares about gouging as much money as it can from you. Open source software, the antithesis, is made for and by the people. It's there to be as useful and enjoyable as possible. Open source software has nothing to gain from forcing you to jump through hoops, unlike for-profit software. They put the hoops in place, then force you to pay them to fix the problem they deliberately caused.
And it's not like open software can't make money. Donations have shown time and time again to be enough for software and servers good enough to deserve them. See lichess.org for a wonderful example of an open platform that even denounces advertising openly, and yet survives just fine on donations. The problem is the for-profit income model.

Ive been using utc personally for over a year and i use it in context of vrchat since it yields one less necessary conversion to other people's timezones because only the offset is needed (as opposed to memorizing both offsets, which is much harder because of that nasty nasty daylight savings and its weird anomalies) but they still hate it and tell me to use a "normal" timezone lol. I had gotten 1 person to switch. And she since switched back. Shit don't work in practicality but I'm still gonna use it out of stubbornness

Because the healthcare industry makes money. A shitload of money. Why would they "fix" that? The problem is the fact that it is an industry.

I'm really glad people are starting to notice their crimes. Only a year ago it felt like I would only see comments like this in anti-capitalist communities.

A post I sent 4 hours ago to lemmy.ml wasn't showing up. After I edited it once with no changes, it showed up as posted 1 minute ago. It's definitely an issue taking place. You can check to see if your posts are showing up at their destinations with the rainbow federation link button next to posts.

Bluetooth autoconnecting to car when earbuds are already connected
I remember connecting to my mom's car via bluetooth to play music one day, and then like a year later I visit her again and it starts autoplaying some random shit I was watching on YouTube without any prompt. The prospects of what that might unexpectedly reveal to people are terrifying.

Yeah yt-dlp has been my strat this whole time anyway. Also Piped and Invidious get the job done when i'm too lazy to type in one short command for every video I watch.
Also, specifying format with yt-dlp is unnecessary ("-f 22") if you have ffmpeg installed iirc because it automatically selects the highest quality, thus shortening the command even further.

What did you guys replace your reddit comments with?
Reply in thread
Reddit was just the de-facto source of general information for a long time. It was like the StackOverflow of general information. I think, maybe 50% of the non-programming answers I found on Google to obscure problems were on Reddit. Like there was this random issue I was having the the Valve Index headset that made its audio driver not start until I restarted the headset like 3 times, and then there was this random comment, packed full of great information, deep in a chain of comments, suggesting I change a registry value in Windows. Since then, I have never had the issue, and it's saved me tens of hours. I know Reddit can be replaced, but its loss will be felt.
