When the holy one left the Fediverse, my faith in Dog was broken
You had to appreciate him when he was here. He's in a better place now, and you need to carry his torch

Clarence Clemons kissing Bruce Springsteen, 1980(?)
The on-stage kisses happened more than once at emotional high points in their shows.
Oh my god they were bandmates

Songs created by AI banned from Australia's music charts
They should do the same for boardroom slop next. If you focus tested it and manufactured it as a product, it's not music

If your art trained the AI, MIT says you may never be able to prove it
I'm pretty sure I can prove MTG trained the Stable diffusion early versions.

Does there exist a STEAMpunk genre? It would be cool.

It wasn’t me. But personally I think it’s nice the A is there.
STEAM is BS, because the arts don't deal with the same kinds of problems STEM does. You might as well put in fucking business or "english" (local/lingua franca language) in there too just to involve everything involved in projects so that we can cover the entirety of human experience.

The fact that you can’t run through Windows setup w/o internet and an online account is absolute bullshit
I'll bite, I don't mind making an ass out of myself.
I've done installs of linux where the fact the internet connection was shit slowed it down. why is the fucking ·iso 4gb if it still needs shit from the internet?

I’d rather “fuck you, society comes first” than “fuck you, billionaires come first”.
the problem is that it's on a knife edge of if it's truly "society first" or "the communist party and current premier first". Just like the soviet union.

Yes, it's called fucking school. When you teach people in school, each class has a certain topic. STEM is a general gathering of related topics to address shared themes and strengthen those themes. It's not "general education" it's a specific specialisation that has banded together synergistically. STEM doesn't mean "Nothing else matters", STEM means : "Here's some resource that helps with logic based subjects".
There's also "humanities" but people aren't there cramming fucking chemical equations into english classes. Humanities has other fundementals and abilities and themes that they share , like IDFK, essay writing, that helps those topics in a similar manner, and they band together to arrange classes or tools or fucking whatever to help that stuff out.
They don't need STEM busting in there to math up the goddamn place.

China stands as a current authoritarian model which is being championed by people like Australian economist Steve Keen.
Way to learn the exact wrong lesson from china.
China does a lot of good and a lot of bad.
We need to learn the pragmatism, government investment and holding private companies accountable part from them, not the censorship and surveillance.

Easily. Voivod, Gorguts, Beyond creation.
I can give specific albums/songs later.
Voivod : start with this cover of pink floyd's astronomy domine to see their aesthetics and to ease into the heaviness
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lIk7KcFAyf0
My favourite that shows their dynamicism and typical features :
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h_Z1ryBN-FE
Albums to start with : Nothingface, Dimension Hatross
Gorguts : The albums to start with :
Colored sands
From Wisdom to hate.
Avoid Obscura until much later. Obscura is a brilliant and innovative cornerstone of tech death, but it's REALLY jarring and tiring to listen to. Don't start there and hate them.
Songs to start with :
Testimonial Ruins :
Instrumental, sick riffs, easy to follow. Dissonant, but stable.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZpGLC6kHmMI
Wisdom to hate : Catchy as fuck, full of hatred and history. Sets the frame nicely for the later album/song Pleiades Dust https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lKIqaiEIVxk
Le Toit du monde:
Modern Gorguts for the modern person. Full of dynamic changes and interesting sections.

Beyond creation :
So, there's been a few threads recently where people talk about how to discover music. Beyond creation is where the exercise is going to be left to the reader, because Forest, the original bass player is basically one of these supersocial people that connects fucking everyone together, and he's in every single fucking band. If you want more recs after listening to my offerings here, just check out the other bands he's in and the musicians those other bands are in, and you'll have more than enough recs to keep you busy.
Sous La Leur de this song is in french for once:
This is a great, well paced song with excellent use of fretless bass (like most songs by beyond), and one of the fun parts of listening to music with screaming vocals, that you can't even know what fucking language it's in. It took me a long time before I realised the song was in french.

Social disability :
This song has a "you'll know when you hear it moment" that shows amazing dynamics and compositional craftsmanship that's always amazing to hear.
https://beyondcreation.bandcamp.com/track/social-disabillity
Agorythm(Surface's echoes):
I just wanted an example from the 3rd album, just to note that they slowed down a bit on purpose, but it didn't suffer that much. Surface's echoes is a good starting point :
https://beyondcreation.bandcamp.com/track/surfaces-echoes
Additional note : Forest is basically like Steve Di Giorgio for florida death metal, or Gene Hoglan, or Terry Bozzio or someone else where you just fucking look in any bands' discography, and, well, there he fucking goes. He's in this fucking band too. It's easier to say which bands they're not fucking in. Obviously, they aren't in all the bands at the same time, but they're just in at least on release at some point or another for these bands.
Post Script : I was really fucking bummed out at missing seeing Cynic peform live, not just because its fucking CYNIC but because they had Beyond Creation opening for them, and I really really do I like what BC does with the fretless bass.
Post Post Script : Fuck it, check out first fragment while you're at it, it's Forest's other band.
Also, Forest peformed in a tour for gorguts when Colin was unavailable.
