Story time. In the early aughts (year 2000 👴 ) Microsoft IIS had a bug due to backwards compatibility with MSDOS 💾 . The effect was you could find an, ummm, open FTP server, create a LPT1 or COM1 directory, then a subdirectory and this path would be invisible to the system admin. If you knew the path, you could ummm store things in it such as the latest movie, game, etc. Arrgh 🏴‍☠️

IIS - Microsoft's server. It had a bunch of things in one package; web server, file server, email server, etc.

MSDOS - Oldass Microsoft operating system. I forget if its the first one. Only supports 8.3 filenames (8 characters plus 3 for file extension).

FTP - File transfer protocol. We were sending bits over the wire without encryption, YOLO

LPT1/COM1 - special devices in MSDOS, printer port and serial port

I use if__name__main__ often when working with AWS Lambda, but I also want to run it locally. Lambda wants to call a function with the params event and context. So I would do something like this:

The oil derricks were there before it was heavily populated. If I remember right, you could scrape oil off the top of the ground when people first arrived. I guess what I'm trying to say is; the derricks werent built in the poor neighborhoods, the poor neighborhoods were built near the former well sites after they went dry....cheap land. Cover the last few producing wells, build some post-WWII boomer housing and the rest is history.

Something about their construction boom had crashed, too much supply on their market, so they turned to the US to invest. Anyway, there was a $750,000 house near me that stayed vacant for 3 years before it was sold for $1.25 million. I looked up the owners on the county government site) and Covid really hurt commercial real estate so they turned to residential/land.
