Pentagon urgently requests $80 billion in funding after Iran war: WSJ

Reply in thread

Missed your reply yesterday, but as we can see today Israel has NOT behaved, and the Straight is closed once again.

And ugh... I hadn't even considered the cost of the damage to the bases. I knew Hegseth had depleted our stockpile of munitions but I thought the $80b was the cost to replace those, and that still leaves us dangerously exposed for several years. I'm sure Trump probably thinks he can order some on Amazon and have them delivered the next day, that's just how out of touch he is with reality.

Has anyone else noticed a sudden lack of reading comprehension skills?

I'm afraid there's nothing new about this, it has been going on for a long time. What I do believe is happening is now that every idiot with a cell phone can jump of sites like lemmy or reddit, we are simply seeing a lot more examples of the problem. Pretty much like when camcorders became affordable to the general public, we suddenly saw all kinds of police brutality videos and some people thought this must be a recent trend when in fact it had been occurring all along.

No Longer About Kids: Florida Judge Allows Trans Adult Ban For Large Swaths Of Care

Literally nobody ever believed it was about "protecting the children." This was never anything more than a cheap shot by those with low and questionable moral value to force everyone else down to their own level in the swamps. Anyone who tells you they are doing this "as a proper Christian" are the same kind of people who are so morally bankrupt that they can't even tell you what it means to love thy neighbor without looking up the words in their favorite piece of fiction.

Don't forget that Amazon also routinely charges shipping costs that sellers have already rolled into their pricing. The first time Amazon moved away from the $25 free-shipping mark, I started looking elsewhere and found the same sellers at their own websites or on ebay, with zero shipping charges (I was looking for hard drives at the time). When I reached out to ask the sellers about it, they said they had no idea Amazon was up-charging their orders but they had no say in the final pricing.

Now that Amazon has once more abandoned the $25 free shipping I have stopped using them entirely (again). I'll read the site for product reviews, then go find the same seller on ebay and get it for an honest price and free shipping.

This started on Wednesday, almost immediately after Trump's victory was announced. By Friday it was already being reported in grade schools because asshole parents enjoy raising asshole sons, and Trump tells people that it's ok to be the absolute worst human being they can be.

I have a friend who is a hard Republican. We generally don't talk politics, but after this started last week he was posting things online being offensive towards women and POC (and the whole "illegals took my job and healthcare") so I finally had to call him out. His response was basically that he wasn't aware of any increased discrimination happening against women, therefore he didn't believe it was happening. I've known the guy for 40 years but this may be the thing that breaks our friendship. He claims to be an advocate for people's rights yet he is painfully unaware of the world around him.

And to absolutely nobody's surprise, Twitter was NOT asked to testify about their long and proven censorship of content when Trump or Musk are called out for direct lies in favor of the Trump campaign, and hiding content in favor of Biden/Harris. But noooo, this administration would never use the justice department for retribution. /s

Cable lobby vows “years of litigation” to avoid bans on blocking and throttling

“heavy-handed regulation will not just hobble network investment and innovation, it will also seriously jeopardize our nation’s collective efforts to build and sustain reliable broadband in rural and unserved communities”

They said exactly the same thing when the first net neutrality laws were getting put in place, then after the laws went into effect the companies went on to invest record amounts in innovation and infrastructure. Funny how their words are completely meaningless.
